Best white colour

  1. Check the M plate. That’ll settle it. Might be the psint’s faded, but unlikely with white. Sage green changes colour completely.

I have never come across this 2 different shades thing. When I need pastel white, I just phone up and ask for pastel white, and it matches.

I once had to order from Jawel paints, as my local gaff was closed in the lock down, and theirs matched as well. It is a creamy white.

Grauwiess is a bit whiter (T4 white), or Alpine white if you want a clean white.

  8. Well the plot is thickening up now. I've put my m plate into an m plate decoder and it states "922/41 - Unknown special order colour".

Anyone know of another decoder I can check as it also doesn't recognise codes EFF, FNU and HFR.

EDIT: I needed to clean the plate...

    The "/" was actually a "7":D

Color roof :L90D- [IMG] Pastel White
Color body :L20B- [IMG] Brilliant Orange

Could it be that the Westy roofs are painted a lighter white and therefore the top half too?

  9. Old white west's do look good! do-it do-it!

  10. What's "old white"? Is that a code of some kind?

  11. I would doubt it. Aren't Westy roofs a different colour white anyway?

It seems to come from using a different paint base at some stage, the mixing instructions changed because one base was a slighty different tint.

The Halfords rattle cans are yellower, the local paint shop is exactly right for L90D.

My bus had an aluminised original sticker with "Pastelweiss L90D" stuck behind the passenger seat. It began life as all that colour.

And dont assume that the bus inside is exacly right- the inside of mine was done with the Halfords rattle cans a while back ...

  13. That's what I mean. It would look weird having a whiter roof than the top half of the bus so perhaps when they did the conversion they painted the top half to match the roof which is why I have a whiter shade of white on the outside? My M Plate specifically states for the factory to leave out the side and rear windows for the westy plastic stuff so they could have painted the lot, windows out. Sound likely?

Here is how L90D looks like when I painted the bumpers.

    2K polyurethane.
That's an "industrial" paint which is very forgiven to use.

  17. Apologies for hogging this thread but just wanted to add that I think my bus must have been painted a lighter white when it had its westy treatment. Mine had the funky box on the front which is stark white as is the fibreglass extension etc so the bumpers and therefore upper section would have needed to match. Looked like this before I removed it (now going back by the way):

If anyone does know what colour Westfalia used please let me know. The interior white is the darker creamier stuff.

Bumpers and wheels did seem to be a brighter white than l90d. All the authorities say it's pastel white but it's deffo brighter.
I've never found any reference to the brighter westy white and gave up looking tbh in the interest of getting a life.
Never actually seen it but I suspect it may have been something like L90E Apineweiss.
Brilliantweiss has been listed in the err lists but there is no code afaik for our model years.
I just went for a brilliant white! Probably a Wilko gloss but I can't remember. Works ok:thumbsup:

Just in case the worry of white prevents a good night's sleep and you want something to do, heres a list.
You may have seen it before but it's clear from this at least that Westy were whatever shade of pastelweiss for the white exterior body.
Some later bumpers and wheels were 100 different. The roofs were whiter as well.
Code 523562 is listed as a brilliant white but that's it..was it the bumper colour on late Westies we'll probably never know
