Bertie the Bus 1972 Westy - Pic Heavy!

  1. I was going to roller it on however the ridges on the floor made it a bit tricky.

    Here are the close ups:

  2. The PO of my bus brushed the inside and it looked gash.
But that looks good.. I'm tempted to brush mine now on the inside and save a bundle of cash.

  3. Do it! I've finished two coats of the whole cargo floor. I'm well chuffed with the results. Also I got bored watching paint dry (literally!) so I took off the spare wheel expecting to find a nasty surprise however all looked ship shape which is good. I then gave the grill a fresh coat of white paint and decided to paint the spare wheel the correct colour (only as a temporary measure before I pain it properly).

I'm going to let the paint dry for a week then I'll get the floor in and start on soundproofing and insulating the interior :)

That looks good, what paint did you use, there's a place that will mix rustoliem (something like that) to your choice of colour is that worth doing @paradox?

  6. Thanks :)

Yeah it's Rustoleum "Combi Color" in a tin and brushed on

  7. Keep going dude - looking good :D

  8. Got a good amount done today. Fitted the sound deadening, insulation, double layer ply floor with insulation & cut my £20 eBay carpet to size :)

Door cards and material is on order so that is the next step...nearly there!

  9. I've been busy over the last few days as the door cards arrived on Friday. I therefore had no excuse but to crack on and get them covered and get the bed in. Plus the promise of taking Bertie to a picnic tomorrow meant that I had some motivation to get it done:

  10. My wife helped with the sewing and I think it all looks really good! Also put in the curtains which have really enhanced the look of the van :)

  12. Thanks mate. It's still not quite finished but it's getting there :)

  13. Where did you get the corrugated floor material from ? Looks like an exact match for the original floor ?

  14. credit where credits due , excellent job , and fair play to ye for tacklen the welding its the only way you l learn and well done to the mrs too owennw

  15. Thanks guys, looking forward to taking it out for a picnic in half an hour :)

@motorcycleemptyness The floor repair panel is from just kampers and yeah is is pretty much spot on in terms of profile.

@popester63 There is a reason for that...I've been watching your thread and taking inspiration from it :)

@shielsy Thanks! I'm sure I will have more welding to come so thought I might as well learn now!

  16. Nice work, hats off to you for taking it on. I've never plucked up the courage to tackle welding on a car!

I'm amazed at the lengths people go to to botch things, surely it takes longer to use wood, nails and glass fibre? But I guess with a coat of paint and a bit of underseal anything can be made to look good

Well done and good luck with the test of it. Most impressed by the engine bay work
    :)

  17. September has been a pretty quite month for work on the van and to be honest it has been a nice break!

The month started with actually using the van as a base for an awesome picnic as well as finally dumping my horrible seats from some french car (still don't know what they were from) and replacing them with mu porka seats which I'm very pleased with. I also bought a middle seat for the walkthru as my wife and I are expecting a baby in Feb :) so it will be a place to strap in the baby seat (subject to me safely sitting a belt/isofix points.

Anywho, here are the Pics......Also we have booked a camping trip to the Isle of Wight on the17th Nov :)
