  13. So.......spent all day on the van today, with help from one of my mates. Managed to remove the engine which took 1.5 hours and then spent a further 1.5 hours trying to drag it around the back of my house and into the shed!

Here are the pics (I'm the one with the beard) :D

I think my oil seal is leaking!!!

    The engine's new home!

The plan now is to clean it up, paint bits, sort out a couple of leaks. Then remove the fuel tank, paint the engine bay and tidy up the wires at the back.

  14. Following on from yesterday, managed to get a couple of hours on Bertie this afternoon.

My mission was to remove the petrol tank to check its condition and the condition of the surrounding bodywork.

The good news is that the tank looks good on the outside and looks like new on the inside!

  15. Hi all,

Time for another update from the last few days of work.

I've managed to strip the engine and get one of the heads off ready for the new pushrod tubes and to give it all a good clean and decoke.

I wire brushed the exhaust and Kurust'd it ready for some VHT paint to tidy it up.

  16. Progressing nicely mate, afraid I can't help with the engine, but I do feel your pain with PO bodges!

  17. Quick update as I've not had the time over the last couple of weeks to work on the van.

Managed to decoke the pistons and the heads which came up nicely.

  19. looks pretty good for your first welding attempt :).........especially as that is one awkward area to weld .......had to do the same on mine

have you looked at it from underneath to check the penetration of the weld? ......it looks quite solid but you could probably turn the power up a bit on your welder as some of the weld looks like it is sitting on top and hasnt penetrated deeply.......or try holding your welds for a second or 2 longer

when I first started welding, as soon as it arced up I would come off the trigger as I was afraid of burning through and it ended up looking like bird poo ;D .........some of the best advice I ever got was to turn up my welder and hols the weld for a bit longer and my welds improved greatly :) ..........I've had a lot of practice on my bus since then ;D

you will find the more you weld the better you will get and your confidence will grow and grow as you get to know which settings on your welder work best.......oh, and remember to keep the shroud and tip clean of spatter - if it builds up it will arc from the tip to the shroud/shield, and from the shroud to the metal work and your welds wont turn out that well.

great job mate K+ for the first new metal welded in :)

  20. My thinking is that this will be a long term vehicle for my wife and I
