Berlin or Helsinki

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Osbert, Apr 7, 2015.

  1. Apologies as I am relatively new to ownership and am still learning... I saw an old thread today that was talking about a Westfalia Continental, showing a diagram of the accommodation, cabinets and appliances. My Westfalia looks just like the diagram in the old ad that was pictured. What I don't understand yet is what is the difference between a Helsinki and a Berlin? Is it the cabinets or the layout or the upholstery material

    Please teach me.

  2. Berlins with the units down the side and swivel passenger seat,3/4 Rock and roll , Helsinki has a similar layout to the continental I think.

  3. Helsinki has full width bed I believe.
    Berlin has 3/4.

  4. Mine is sounding like a Helsinki then, full width bed and no swivel passenger seat. Thanks

  5. Got any interior pics?

I have a Berlin, so can tell you if it's a Berlin or not!

  6. I'm probably going to be corrected here, but my research before I bought my Continental suggested that the main differences are that the Helsinki has the swivel seat and the large wardrobe behind the driver seat, with the cooker that flips down out of the unit and straddles the walk-through area. As above, the Berlin has everything down one side including cooker and fridge units.
    Let's await the experts!

  8. Definitely a Helsinki, thanks guys. I can now spot the difference.

  9. I too own a Helsinki,I went for this over the Berlin for a few reasons:

    Nice fridge
Handy little fold up picnic table on side of fridge
Full width bed (im a big bugger)
    Handy fold down cooker
Extra sitting space in the back. (makes up for non swiveling front seat)
Spare wheel in fiber glass box on front (little bit ugly but its growing on me)
Helsinki is a little bit less common than Berlins

    The negatives are:

    High cupboard behind drivers seat
Fridge/sink unit blocking the sliding door
    No swivel seat

Mine came with a working Truma heater that is just perfect for those nippy nights in Sweden,it also came with double glazing windows except for drivers/passenger windows and front screen. These are sealed and not able to open so it can be a bit warm in the back.If they are cleaned with the wrong chemicals they can become faded and you can lose some visibility.
They are available to buy new in Germany, proper Westfalia logo and all.
Mine also has a sun roof in the pop top.(not sure if Berlins have this?)

@philntfc we should start a Helsinki club here...

    MOTHC?

I believe the Malaga conversion makes women drop at your feet and enables you to not only score the wining goal at Wembley, but have Concord as your private plane.

    Just saying....

  12. Sorry @Clive Neilands, I can't join a Helsinki club, mines actually a Berlin! I got those pics from Google images just to show the differences:) We decided on a Berlin because it suits our needs a bit better than a Helsinki and for us has a bit more usable space. Luckily we are all different, but the variety of available interiors means theres usually something to suit everyone:thumbsup:

  15. Whats wrong with your fridge?

  16. Have you got the truma heater?

  17. Don't buy a Westfalia Bracknell. They were awful.

  19. Continental are the UK equivalent to the European Malaga. Only difference is they're a mirror image to convert to right hand drive.. Plus yearly alterations ..

    I have a 78 continental.
