Scotty was last seen on TLB Nov 4, 2015. And he only made a few posts after this one about some crazy Chris. :)

    Welcome by the way.

This is a real dilemma for me. I like to do jobs myself and I did this A few years ago and hated every second of it. Boring, messy and seemingly never ending!
It's time to think about cleaning it off and doing it again. Anyone know of a recommendation like ' before and after' in west London, greater London area?

  3. I have to agree, I've done this a good few times on different cars over the years and It's the one job that is actually worse than you imagine before you start, well worth doing though.

  4. Getting a garage to do the job for you would be very expensive, apart from the modest cost of materials, its a labour intensive job to remove old and treat any rusty areas and apply new, many hours at garage hourly rates in excess of £70 per hour plus vat.

Why not wait until the summer and do it yourself, bit by bit, its satisfying and cheap. I went for paint on my van, 2 coats of brush on Rustoleum, It took a while but its clean and shiney and it has lasted well. ps. and I am an OAP.

Around £800 for them to make a right mess of the job & the chassis to rust worse than when it was treated & not want to know afterwards :(

  6. I beg to differ

All done by myself outdoors on a gravel drive with a small compressor and a underseal gun

Like anything to do a good job it takes time and effort

Properly undersealing and cavity waxing are one of the most worthwhile jobs on a bus as it will save you a lot of time and money in the future

  9. That is a fantastic job. Like some of the others I always thought you should do those jobs you can do yourself. Except this one.

  10. Is this 'Before and After' or somebody else?

  12. Before the days of 'Ziabart' underseal it was just old black engine oil. Now that was a messy application, dripped for weeks leaving stains everywhere, but zero cost. But if there was a engine oil leak this did the application while driving! ps and I am an OAP.

I know it's a rum job ....but best doing it yourself to do a proper job ...i bet even the professionals on big money are likely to cut corners with it being a awful job .

Its one of the "professional" VW garages; didn't want to know when rust started coming through within six months of rust treatment. Majors underside is far from great, luckily there is no rot from what we have investigated so far.
    BTW, it was Dinitrol treatment

  15. Epoxy mastic?

  16. No

It’s an old school one that a lot of people on the net tell other people not to use

I’m not a fan of epoxy resin
It was used on my bus by someone else that worked on it
And it’s lifted of in big flakes like por 15 did for a lot of people

  20. I won’t comment on the prep on my van as the. Fella that did it is more than willing to take it back and redo it

If I just could get my engine back do I could take it back

Of course everything is about prep
Modern coatings once compramised accelerate rot
