Beetle help needed

  1. Hi, I know this site is a camper site but I can’t seem to find any answers....my wife’s 1303 won’t start, no ignition lights or click from the starter!?
Only the front indicators work, rear ones don’t (even though the left and right ones are on different circuits)
I’ve checked all the fuses and wiring but nothing?!
    Any ideas??

They’re not that dissimilar from bus wiring.
What’ve you checked in the electrical circuit thus far?
Do you have 12v at the starter post?
Do you have 12v at fuse 8/9?
    Is your ignition switch ok?

  3. Is the battery flat?

  4. Battery ok, charged it and even put the new camper battery on

  5. Could be a dodgy ignition but that doesn’t explain the indicators

  6. Can you checked the battery cables?

  7. Checked your earth?

  8. All checked and all good

  9. Yep

  10. Do the hazards only work on the front?

Sounds like ignition switch to me. Pull the plug off the back of the switch, and put a jumper wire across from the fat red to the black wire, and ignition lights should come on. Then touch another jumper to the red and black and it should start.

  12. Yes, both fronts no back

  13. Sounds like two separate faults to me.

  14. Thanks, I’ll try tonight

  15. Hazards are not on the ignition switch, however. A faulty ignition switch doesn't explain the rear lights not coming on.

  16. So possibly 2 different faults

If rears don't come on with Hazards check the rear bulbs and earths.

  18. 12+V main feed to switch near wipers come loose, also on ours there is a connector behind speedo (black/red cable) that runs to starter may of come apart. As above bridge switch connections....
