  1. Engine builder just text me back and he pretty sure rods were Ali so guessing its not hydraulic lifters? :(

  2. Battle of the giants going on there Gaz! ;)
You ain't got hydraulic lifters, you said it was a standard 2 ltr, from what I'm aware it's only T25 that have those? Sure they'll be along to correct me if I'm wrong..... shortly ......
Good to hear its not your box and sure you'll get it sorted fella :)

  3. Unfortunately it's not that straight forward!! US busses had hydraulic lifters, as did 79 UK bays with square port heads!!

Plus knowing vw they probably offered them as an optional extra

  4. Bugger, I thought I may have been right on this one lol
Apart from it not being the box ;)
    Sorry, not helpful :(

  5. The engine did come with the camper which was a fresh import? I was told all u.s engine s were hydraulic??
Never mind if it turns out to be the crank then it ll have to come out :(
May have a another bay this week as a parts van and that has 2 2.0 engines with it so hoping 1 of them is a good engine :)
    Thanks :)

  6. The yanks are terrible for fiddling with type 4s!!

I had a poorly 1700 come in a while back.. And it was a 1911 on un-machined heads, so the tops of the barrels were thin wall

  7. Right have found my problem! Drive plate has work its way loose! All 5 torx bolts were less than finger tight :(
But looking at it properly not sure if I'm missing something? In the centre of the 5 torx bolts there another threaded hole and when bolted to engine there a roller bearing directly behind?? ImageUploadedByTapatalk1378645857.323441.jpg ImageUploadedByTapatalk1378645875.404530.jpg
Look what it's done to the wholes on my drive plate :(

The centre hole is for a manual gearbox driveshaft.
    Good work.
The torque convertor holes don't look too good either, perhaps the fitting together of the two was a bit out of alignment and caused the others to vibrate loose?

  9. I know :( hoping when the drive plate tight to engine it won't shake them loose again? Will put some loctite on the thread just in case? Hoping that's all it was? No movement in end float to make it vibrate loose?

I'd be looking for a replacement driveplate myself... worth ringing around the engine builders.

  11. Will try? Can see it being a nightmare to get 1 thou :s

maybe, find out when it fails won't we? investigating noises costs money, my radio goes a lot louder yet...

  19. Glad you found the problem however looks like you need a new plate.
Don't know if you could get the holes welded up and redrilled?
