  1. Hi all, bit of a problem i hope someone might put us in the right direction, went to a hotel in stone the other week, said free parking for guests on website, gets there and its a pay & display car park but said on board that hotel guest free, gets to the hotel and its shut!!, all locked up gone bust!!, found someone thru a window and they said closed 2 days previous but have a sister hotel 20 miles away, so go back to the car, ring this other hotel and they can put us up, great we thought, off we went had a good weekend job done, until we get a letter thru saying we owe £100 for 22 mins 'parking' without paying!!, even though guests free!, but because we went to there other hotel they say we never stayed there and weve got no proof of stay!, WTF!!, sent a load of info off in emails but seems they don't want to know!!, some internet stuff says ignore it but the missus has already owned up to being the driver so reckons they will prosecute, anyone else had any dealings with PARKINGEYE

Not sure once you've admitted it was you.
In all other cases ignore it.

  3. Yeah ignore them ,its a scam they cant make you pay
I got one from a service station I broke down at.

  4. Yep, girlfriend took my car to a meeting and she was there over the allocated time so yep I got a ticket! Anyway stupidly I rang and paid, then on speaking to a mate, he said don't pay it, you should attempt to contact them and speak to them about it. I did try and contact them but funny old thing i couldnt get through to anyone!
Apparently it's not an enforceable fine and basically its there as a deterrent to stop people clogging up the car parks. I reckon it's just like the old clamping contracts that you used to see on tv to make money! I would definitely take more advice fella :)

  5. Oh and because we were on holiday when I got back and actually got the letter another arrived saying it was going upto £200!!!!

  6. Just ignore the letters.
If they do send it to collection they wont bother chasing it up for £100 ,not worth it and it wont effect your credit.
Just bin the letters ,there just meant to scare you.

  8. I now dont pay for any private parking as they cant clamp you any more
Always check the car park though as some are council run and they can and will collect.

You have to apply to court to be able to enforce parking fines. This is a scam unless they have a court endorsed license. Don't pay it buddy!

it's complex yet very simple - they send a load of bumf with threatening language in the hope that you roll over.

Firstly - its not a parking fine - it's actually an invoice in the eyes of the law - a private company cannot issue fines on private land where a member of public has open access.
It's also and invoice that you have not signed and don't have to recognise.

They have to prove that you saw the signs, understood exactly what was on them and then ignored them. Putting the signs on public display is not the same as proving you knowingly ignored them.

If you have said that you did see them, and understood you were a guest of the hotel - I can't see how they can fine you if you were away for 22 minutes establishing that you couldn't stay there even if you wanted - the court would take a dim view on this.

    Ignore the letters.

If they carry on, write to them with an invoice for your time spent dealing with them, and tell them you will take them to small claims court to seek costs.

I'd personally just bin it. But if you're worried:
Ask for all the car park orders and the enforcement notices. The details of the company who carried out the enforcement including vat number and any other info you can think of. The car park owners details and proof of adequate correctly written signage in said car park
This is from the head of car parks at norfolk county council

Surely they all 'know' each other in Norfolk though.....or is this for when they target outlanders welcome visitors.

  14. Have you tried speaking to the Hotel you stayed in to see what they say ? If they are in partnership with the car park company they may do something. If it is a major hotel chain, I doubt they will condone actions that will drag their name down. Worth a shot. It may go away quietly.

You know, somebody actually complimented me on my driving today. They left a little note on the windscreen. It said: ‘Parking Fine.’ So that was nice - Tim Vine

  16. Tried the other hotel, but they could'nt help us any, been online and i think its a council run car park, might give them an email, just waiting for a response from parkingeye now as weve sent them as much info as possible but seem to fall on deaf ears as they say, told the wife to put in email that they should take us to court, and hope they forget about it but she never did, bit of a flapper the missus!!, ive told her to forget about it and move on but seems to be the topic of conversation in our household at the mo!!
