    A ladies bus push
A bus squeeze - how many folk can you get in a bus
An engine blow up - they run one flat out with no oil until it explodes
A one man engine change race
    Pie eating competition.
    A Ukelele jam session

    & much much more...

  9. No, it's mostly focussed on the Saturday.

Friday night the vehicles on the 'run' meet up at Hook Road and camp there.

Saturday morning, the Hook Road 'run' of vehicles pack up and start setting off at 8am. ish.

Meanwhile, on Brighton seafront, the traders and the club displays set up on Madeira Drive, and then the organisers open the gates at 9am.

Over the course of the morning, vehicles arrive and park up, and people wander up and down and look at the cars and browse through the trade. There's other stuff on the programme, but I haven't got last years' in front of me so I can't remember what was on it. I usually go looking round at the other VWs, catch up with a few people I know are going to be there, usually go and say hi to Technohippy for a few minutes, that sort of thing. There's a show and shine, and awards given out by about mid afternoon, and then by 5pm everyone who has a Racecourse ticket starts to leave and move up to the Racecourse. You set up camp, usually cook tea, then there's usually battle of the bands or some other entertainment over in the bar at the racecourse, although some people just chill out at their camp and drink, the entertainment usually finishes about 11, and then if you're being noisy after that you get the marshalls coming round to tell you off.

Sunday morning, get up, cook breakfast, everyone packs up and leaves during the morning, you have to be gone from the racecourse by lunchtime. We usually go down to the marina for a couple of hours and then spend the afternoon driving home.

What we will probably have to do with our line-up is be there before 9am on the Saturday to get everyone in place before they open the gates, although I'm going to ask about whether we are allowed to keep spaces for those on the run from Hook Road.

  10. To summarise Simon, bog all happens, but it's a really nice way to finish the season with lots of mates by the seaside.

  11. Oh and it's in a great location to visit the shops apparently !!!!!!

  13. It is actually. I get to look after the dogs all day while my wife goes shopping around Brighton Lanes. Something to do with 'not being interested in wandering around a load of stalls with mouldy old van parts on them'?

  15. So... another potentially stupid question, I'm up for camping at Hook Road, the convoy down and the Racecourse, but don't feel the need to show off my van in a show and shine way, and I can simply park at my brother's in Brighton rather than use up someone else's parking space who can't park elsewhere... should I just pay to camp separately (if indeed that is possible) and peel off once we reach the seafront in the convoy?

  16. You can't buy the Racecourse ticket without also buying the seafront ticket.
