You wouldn’t get the brackets off without taking the gutter with it but you just need a spanner – it’s only two bolts.

  2. Yes but it is always the half-wits and not the pros that cause the most damage. Still having flashbacks to the only new car I ever bought and the mess someone made whilst failing to get into it

    Where do you live?

  5. So zed if you need to fund your awning and its expensive upsell/x-sell opportunitues, I might be interested in your old one. If you are looking to sell it, How much would you be looking for? How big is it- oo err missus? what colour is it etc?

No rush as wont need it til spring.

  6. That was some idiot in west london when the carnival was on Ealing Common.

  8. Even those limited production run bespoke brackets

  9. Opened the fiamma brackets and even the back one is no where straight fit. I don't have a grinder or a vice. Anyone want to adapt them for me, neat job like zeds, worth 60quid plus postage for me by the time I buy a grinder wreck them, and then have to buy new ones.....

    PM me if anyone interested?

    Thanks

'tis a bit of an iffy job - difficult wthout the actual van and awning, a fair bit of trial and error...

  11. Hi zed
Yes was thinking everyone on here got the van and the awning has a metal channel on the back that just needs to be vertical and hold 2 8x 20mm bolts captively at each bracket position. It's an outhouse not fiamma awning so doesn't have to line up with brackets.

I can drill those holes once I have brackets that fit.

I'm out because I should be doing stuff to my own bus, but also...

The bit that I can see not turning out quite the same bus to bus is getting the bracket vertical which took me a few goes because as you tighten it up it moves.
If I was game to adapt your brackets, for starters I wouldn't want to be clamping them on and off my bus multiple times - I've just painted it. Then when done, you might not want to tighten them so much, or you might want them tighter, both would alter the vertical.

It's a can of worms, you've seen Bobdogs? It's clearly, like mine, not quite right and damages the gutter a bit, again depending on a few variables. The bit with the plastic cap that lays on the side of the van in reality barely touches it - depending on exactly how tight you tighten the clamp and exactly what shape you've bent both parts into which no doubt is why Bobdogs now has his wrapped in tape.

All in all it's not a job I'd want to do for someone else because IMO it's impossible to do it 100% correctly. I think owner needs to be present and taking responsibility.

Do you have a mate with a vice and grinder?

  13. Thanks zed understand what you mean re damaging bus, I managed to drop the bl00dy bracket when I was messing with it earlier and took a chunk out of the bumper.....

Shame though yours looked like a really neat job.

If it was just cutting into T shape at the front I could do that no drama but it's the back bracket that doesn't seem to fit into the gutter so I can't get the bolt in that worries me. Did you trim the bit that goes in the gutter or just force it and watch the gutter bend as you tighten it up?

This. The bolt hole if offset towards what has to be the top to get just over the gutter top, and that makes the bottom too wide to fit in the bottom of the gutter. Think I trimmed about 6mm off, but I aslo clamped it in the vice first and walloped the more open bend to 90 degs which distorted the whole thing somewhat.
The little bit would have worked fine I think if the bolt hole had been towards the "longer" end so it fitted the other way up. I think.

  15. Ok so the gutter bit close angle to 90 degs and cut about 6mm off that leg. I think your right would begin to fit. And might have to slot the hole a bit.

    I'll think about that.

    Thanks for the help

On mine the rear bracket just needed an adjustment with a hammer and a block of wood, the front one was also cut to suit the B post – with a hacksaw and a round file. Once the brackets are tightened the gutter is deformed slightly but not enough to make further modification to the brackets worthwhile. Rear bracket.JPG B post bracket.JPG

  17. Too busy camping in mine to worry about what it looks like.....I leave all that 'neat and tidy' business for the wife to deal with.......

  19. Thanks did you cut the bottom lip off the backing plate?

No, the backing plate is exactly as supplied. The only change to the rear bracket was to alter the angle and at the front to also narrow it to match the B post. I saw one at a show a couple of weeks ago that only had the forward part of the front bracket cut so the cab door would open, the slider went back far enough before going out to clear the bracket – if that makes sense.
