First time I went on the IOW ferry (50 years ago with my dad) you just turned up at the ferry station, looked for the charge hand, dropped him at bit of cash and we were on the next ferry crossing. They kept 2 spaces empty on every crossing for emergency vehicles (so these were up for grabs) they still keep emergency spaces but no 'back handers'! . Oh yes, no café on board the tea was made in the engine room in a bucket.

 

I think the tea is still made in a bucket bleeeuuuggghhhh
