Any bikers on here - commuters I mean?

    Watch this (and others):

    Stupid Drivers & Taxis Compilation

Not usually one to comment on others driving, but is it me or does this guy not get that he is breaking all sorts of laws himself?!?! The aggression and speed he rides with is phenomenal.

I've been a Motorbike commuter in London and other cities on and off for over 8 years - I worry he won't live long!! Admittedly, my Blackbird isn't the most agile!

  3. Hi,

I'm a biker and I've commuted through London a lot of years. I've also been a motorcycle courier.

I have to say, it's you. That bike isn't speeding at all. Admittedly, many do. To my eye that's not speeding. You have to remember things look very different on a bike and you're getting more of the feel of travelling than you do sitting in a comfy seat with the AC on and the stereo blaring.

The thing is about a bike in London is that you can get through the gaps and make progress when you can't in a car. I'm no expert but none of what that guy did is illegal.

I've been knocked off my bike by people just pulling U turns. Bikes accelerate quickly. That's not illegal. I does however mean that when a builders van runs a red light, they dont expect anything to have been quick enough to get in their way. That happened to me, and I just avoided being killed. I swore at the guy and called him names, and he laughed and said "you'd be dead, I'd be alive".

Unless you're a biker, and I'm guessing you're not, you really have no experience to base an opinion. I suggest everyone gets to ride a scooter through London. It would open your eyes.

    Cheers

    Stuart

[EDIT: just some spelling mistakes. There are probably more]

  5. Fair enough ... I'll do that at home!

  6. There's nothing in that video that I didn't see several times a week when I scoommuted into London. The trick was to always expect that people wouldn't see you and ride in a manner that you could avoid trouble. On the whole though Central London drivers are pretty aware of PTWs. It was in the suburbs that I always used to tone down the daredevil stuff as Mrs Mum on the school run has no clue about filtering or what I used to call "cereal packeting" (tearing along the dotted line)!

The two times that I got knocked off by cars were both under 30mph and of such dopeyness by the drivers as to be unavoidable. Each time I got hurt but got over it (though the second one did involve an ambulance and suspected broken neck) and got some compo some time after.

I've been off the bike ever since my last one died and soon after I started a business from home so didn't need to travel into London regularly. However just writing this has made me realise how much I miss the thrill of riding. It was very similar to the van really - a trip to Tesco or the chippy was made into a little bit more of an adventure.

i agree biking looks very different on video and to the car drivers eyes. I find as a biker i also do alot more checks mirrors blindspots etc in places i dont need to in a car but i do it as i would on a bike.

  8. That rider was pussy footing along.....needs some work on aticipating what other road users are doing, take it it was a helmet mounted cam...if it was then a serious lack of general observation, I wouldn't get on the back till that rider knew what they were doing...forward observation sucks. imho

  9. I don't ride anymore, but in my younger days I rode like a loony! I always felt safe at the time, but when I look back now it makes me cringe!

I think for me its the moral higher ground he takes with other peoples driving, yet no realisation (seemingly) that he has his own moments of being a d1ck.

If someone wants to ride like that - it's his life - why post on youtube with annotated notes - and present yourself as some knight of the road though?

Actually - just realised - why do I care?!?

  11. I'm a biker. Passed my test in 2001 and currently ride this:

    Nice SV.
Love bikes, used to have a 1200 Bandit. Sold it to buy parts for my van.

  15. Seems like he is riding into situations to get good footage to post up on youtube, either that or he genuinely doesn't pay attention to what's staring him in the face.
