left his and other vans behind. sold most of their engines and gearboxes and took thousands off most. I know the person who has taken over there workshop and is trying to help the poor soles mostly doing work for hardly anything.
Hope this guy doesnt set up again cant name him as police involved just if new company doing this sets up near your make sure he is local and double check them.

Why would anyone in their right mind take over a workshop filled with work paid for but not done by someone else, and inherit a bunch of (rightly) disgruntled and skint customers?

Perhaps people should not trust everyone they meet. It is so naive. Our parents teach us this from day 1. Or has something changed? Since I grew up, the world has only gotten worse, and has reinforced that bit of parental advice at least 50 fold during my years.

No offence to the person you met BTW, but a bit of research and common sense goes along way when money is involved.

Bit of a difference between hiding some poor bodywork under filler and underseal, and palming off a load of buses missing vital parts and books full of unhappy customers.

Having been through an experience close to this , this sort of situation builds up gradually until it comes to an outcome.

In our case, the restorers were recommended as having been doing work for several years, with happy customers.
They decided to invest in a new secondhand paint oven. Which turned out to need a new controller that meant the total cost was the same as a new oven. They also invested in a bodywork jig for some repair work they were doing.
I visited regularly and saw the equipment installed and in use. They reasonably requested we pay for body panels they would be using in advance as there was around £1000 worth of parts fitted (new doors, wheel arches etc ) .

What they did not know was the bosses son was in the habit of impressing his girlfriends using cash from the business. So it ran out.

When I went back the last time, they finally managed to finish the paint job so I paid the bill and took the bus, without complaint about anything. Just drove it off without any door seals and with slightly wonky doors with creases in them where they bodged them , knackered window winders, a dash mount DVD player dead from being left in the rain ..

There was no bodywork jig any more on the premises.

  10. outskirts of Peterborough, not a point of pointing fingers that wont help now they are long gone more a case of if anyone sets up a shop fitting these just do research first as they normally start again in different name.
