  3. SGS kit seems good, 40kg though.

£180 strikes me as a bit pricey for something with the Halfords name on it.

  5. Darn taken in by the 'Advanced'.

SGS is good kit and despite being 40kg's, it gives you piece of mind knowing its well built!

  7. I've got an SGS 3 ton trolley jack that I can highly recommend though it's certainly a hefty bit of kit, the neighbours love it when I drag it down the path first thing on a Sunday morning:p

    I bought a 3ton trolley jack for around 100.

    Best thing I've ever bought.

  9. These jacks are available under several different brand names, I have one, can't fault it, but I didn't pay that much for it. I suppose everything has gone up recently:(

It looks identical to my Costco one, when I’ve been in the paddock at classic race meetings they are everywhere. It works for me because it’s easy to lug around and very low so I can get under low things like my 911 engine.

When I told the wife that I’d bought a two ton jack she thought that was what it weighed, and worried that I’d hurt myself moving it around the garage.

  11. Yeah, got mine from Costco too and the neighbours etc ...

  13. Its always, a punt, you pays your money you take your chance.

Used the jack three times now, very pleased. Fits under my volvo c30 as a straight lift, no faffing with supplied jack to get clearance for my trolley jack.
Plenty of height for lifting the van.
Got to lean on it a bit to lift the 2 ton, gearing wise, but you man up and push a bit and all is good. He ho and up she rises!

Its It's just strange but I could never bring myself to trust aluminium alloy for low cost items in the same way as mild steel .. perhaps it's the greater difficulty level of making good welds that don't have built in cracks.

I have the massive Halfords Advanced socket set, through abuse in the past I have broken odd bits, I took them to the shop and they replaced them straight away, me only gripe is the box is rubbish and thats not covered, a massive socket set without the box is pretty useless. I just keep bodging it together.

I have a Halfords Advanced 3/4" breaker bar. Engraved on the handle is the advice not to use extension tubes.
It twisted when I got my rear wheel nuts undone (guess how) but I was able to beat it back into shape so it remains a part of my tool kit, as it was obvious what crime I had committed.

The boxes come up on eBay quite often but they too will obviously break just as quick but ifyou want one its worth looking now and again

It’s rebranded Snap On. Only the ratchet in the wrench is in larger increments, so harder to do up bolts in smaller spaces.
Snap on, is a rip off.
