Accelerator Cable Stuck

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Fat_Brum, Jun 20, 2015.

  1. Hi,
Just trying to start-up after a couple of month’s layup and the accelerator cable is stuck solid!

Pedal linkage seems Ok, though from under the bus I cannot pull the cable with a pair of pliers at the pedal end!
Am just working though, any one got any quick pointers?

    All comments appreciated..;)

Also, have notice there is a crack in the floor pan next the accelerator pedal.:(

  2. Any one go a little tip?

Conduit looks sound, cable is not tight at the pedal entry point to the conduit, does not appear to be tight within the flexible tube over the gearbox through the fire wall.

Can see how to get to the union point of the steel conduit and the flexi tube above the gearbox.

Have just got a new cable in case … though as the existing cable is stuck tight, am not certain of the way forward.

  3. An outside possibility, but if your gearbox/engine earth has come off, the starter current may have welded the cable in place.

  4. Unless I'm reading this wrong, it would suggest its stuck. Possibility of foreign object in conduit?

  5. Tis stuck, though boot fitted to the front and flexible tube over gearbox into firewall fitted well onto the steel, so not easy for anything to entre, and as far as I can see there are no breaks in the steel pipe.

Though it would appear something has, as it is stuck solid in there.

I have now squired WD40 down both ends of the conduit, see how that goes.

Am now thinking to run a new cable outside the conduit as a temporary measure.

    Any thoughts?

  6. Gearbox to chassis is in place, just been staring at it for 10 minutes whilst checking the cable. :)

Though if that is the case any suggestions?

  7. Well after a lot of pulling, pushing, twisting and WD40 all would appear to be Ok…….

Next job, fit new accelerator cable. :)

    Thanks guys for your support.

  8. Did you fit a new one (cable that is?), if so do you have any tips, just that I though whilst I haven't reconnected to the carb linkage and belly pan off to fit a buttys bits accelerator kit now might be a good time to do it.

Did you slide the new one through easily or use the old one as a draw?

  9. Butty's is closed at the current moment, as his off to Euro Bug-in... still I am sure orders will be sorted once his back :)

  10. @Wonty I already have the kit, just need to fit it!

  11. I told a lie, was not my next job, though I do have a cable!

I am currently focusing on getting an interior back in so we can go camping, cable is on the ever growing list.

Looking at various threads and sites, sound quite easy, my concern would be getting from the engine bay to the gearbox, as the flexi tube that runs over the box, does not extend into the engine bay on our bus.

So the process would appear to be join the two cables at either the pedal or engine end (I will go for the engine bay end), then gentle pull the new one in! Easy
