Trying to connect the accelerator cable up tonight and came across a slight problem. The cable slides freely right from the pedal to the other end of the chassis tube and through the bendy rubber tube, no problem. It also slides free in the steel tube which at this stage is not fed throught the fanhousing. When we pass the tube through the fanhousing so the flare is up against the fanhousing, we can get the tube engaged in its corresponding sleeve on the rubber tube. Feeding the throttle cable through and fastening it to the carb clamp and the whole lot slides about an inch out of the fanhousing towards the back of the bus, even though no snags are evident when the cable is pulled. The accelerator pedal doesnt feel right, it feels as though it sticks unless we clamp the rubber flexible tube down somewhere. What have we done wrong or have we missed a part out somewhere?
There should be a gromet in the rear tin to hold it there. A tie wrap will do forward side of the rear tin. Awkward at this stage, but doable.
Ahh we did wonder if this was the case, as VWH lists a grommet but dont show where it goes! Cable tie it is then, thanks for the reply ;D
The accelerator tubes do have a deep desire to go walkies. Fit both grommets and make sure everything's free of oil/grease. This may do the trick. Too long a tube causes probs as well - the replacements seem to be longer than they need to be.
The tube looks to be the original one so (he says hopefully) its the right length! I'll order some grommets when VWH get them back in stock
