  1. Amazing looking bus, well done.
Can you just confirm the colour codes for me please,
and is the sliding door a converted panel door or have you changed it?
    Thanks

    Thanks!
Colours are Neptune Blue (L50K) and Pastel White (L90D). The door was what came with the van when we bought it so it was changed at some in its past to use a microbus door.

I'm not aware of any different shades of it. My paint is only a few years old so hasn't had much of a chance to fade.

A job that’s been on Iris’ todo list for a few years finally checked off. Carpet lined ply headliner for the cab to match the rear bed boards.

It’s only a small start but I’m trying to make some time over the next few months to do some repair jobs on Iris ready for summer adventures. First up, rear bumper off for a repaint after I reversed it into a wall at our old house.

Yes, this seems to happen too often as both Iris and Myrtle have suffered damage from me reversing them! ‍

Working on my own vehicles for the first time in a while!

Engine lid off Iris to address some rust that’s creeping in around the licence plate hole. I’m going to repaint this once I’ve cleaned back the rust and treated it.

The top of the engine lid aperture is looking a bit rough due to lack of paint and water sitting behind the seal so I’m going to clean this all back to bare metal as well.

I’ve primed the section of the rear bumper that I scraped against a wall, so just need to sand it all down ready for a repaint once the weather is a little warmer.

Rust never sleeps. Cleaning up the bottom of the driver’s rear corner which had some rust creeping through.
Caught just in time as I should get away with just rust treating this.

Stripping more bits off the van to sort. Drivers door off to get at the rust that’s eating away at the bottom edge. Bay doors are a bit of a crap design as the bottom edge is a big old water trap.

Which primer's were you using James?

    Epoxy throughout.
I doubt it would've made much difference what primer I went for though. I neglected to seam seal the very edge of the door lip and guess water just got under the paint. Oh well!

This is why you need two classic cars, drive one to go and repair the other .

I’ve been working on repairing the bottom of the drivers door for a few days now. I ended up chopping a big section of the seal channel out, and the bottom plate. I’ve made and welded in some repair panels, and given it a quick coat of etch primer.

Now to just do the passenger door, which looks like it’ll only need the bottom plate.

Hopefully the last of the welding on the van.

A sliver of the driver’s A pillar lip had been slowly deteriorating so I’ve chopped it out and let in some fresh metal.

The passenger door was in much better condition than the driver and only needed a tiny repair to the bottom section. The rest of the seal channel looked good so I’ve just cleaned it all up.

Hopefully onto filling and priming next weekend.

  20. James I love the way you work and never though the rust worm would so soon revisit your beautiful welding, seam sealing and epoxy primer.
As Lottie was done in parallel with Iris I now find myself nervously examining her skin like a mother looking for meningitis!!
Lets hope they both shine on for a few more decades.
