So I’ve started, that’s the easy bit of course… And I really can’t tell you how delighted I was to find a puddle! Yup, an actual puddle of water. It was under the ply flooring… And then, where’s there’s water, there’s rust, mushy rust… it was all along under the polystyrene insulation. One of the clips to hold the poly in place was half gone. So not 100% sure where it’s coming from yet, but the puddle is the after effect. The main problem is the drip into the wall cavity. Bugger. It’s not really the weather for drying out, so may have to get a heater in before I can really be sure what’s happening, and then what needs to get fixed. No sign of this on the outside fortunately. Yet. Any contributions from people who been through this are welcome
There was one of the Top Gear specials where they had to drain the car after driving through a river… I recall Jezza used a shot gun to create a carefully placed drain hole! in all seriousness, a small drain hole might help to let the water through until such time that the leak is found / fixed? a plastic dehumidifier may also be a good investment
No point trying to dry it out if it lives outside and leaks - next time it rains it'll fill up again. You need to find where the water is coming in and resolve that imo. Once you've done that a dehumidifier will dry it out but ideally needs to be inside /garage otherwise you'll be trying to dehumidify the planet. You can get a crystal thing that absorbs moisture - we have one in our cottage where one of the walls is prone to condensation (2m thick cobb wall) you just fill the crystals and it absorbs the moisture. Can't remember what its called but you can prob find it with google.
It will be living back in the garage, just got a bit of juggling to do. And all window rubber are getting replaced, assuming that’s where it’s coming in. But the amount of corrosion shows this has been happening for a while unfortunately.i did wonder if condensation was partly responsible.
Whilst I deal with the soggy rusty bits, I’m interested in inspiration for a couple of areas if anyone feels obliging… 1 - Rear interior corners. Have you left bare metal? Or covered in carpet or vinyl type stuff? Have you done it from the back shelf up to the headliner or half n half? 2 - Internal latch for the rear door. Anyone done this? In hot summer fields (remember them?) we tend to get a bit too toasty waking up in the morning. Would be great to be able to open the door. Probably need a rope of some sort to gently open it up. Photos and thoughts much appreciated.
