'72 only bumpers

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by nobayinhell, Jun 28, 2019.

  1. Is the '72 only rear bumper basically an early bumper that fits late bays? Or is there more to it than that?

I have a '72 that doesn't have any features of an early, will the '72 rear bumper fit?

Has it got the deformation panel?

  3. Yes it hasn't got any early features. Its the rear bumper I'm on about though. I want a rounded rear bumper so either a Brazilian or early style. Just wondering if the 72 only bumpers will fit

  4. Hi,

The crossover bumper requires 'one year only' bumper irons and is also supported at the ends by additional brackets. You'll need to drill holes in the lower rear corners for these.

My bus has an early bumper that has been re- drilled and had the 'early' holes welded up (chassis rails are further apart on a late bay).

If I ever get around to fitting my towbar, I may have a set of irons for sale...

  5. Great info, thanks.

Seems that I would be making my life more difficult with the 72 rear bumper vs going for the similar looking Brazilian bumper which looks like a simple fix.

  6. I think you'd still need some kind of end support brackets on the rear, I've seen some pretty droopy looking slash-cut numbers over the years!

AFAIK the Brazilian front bumper goes straight on.
