'68 Bug quick bodge it up project....

Discussion in 'Show Us Your Bit On The Side' started by Mattlad, Apr 8, 2014.

  1. In keeping with the glacial progress I have sorted out a narrowed adjustable beam - just need to collect and fit it now. Should only take 6 months.

  2. I've actually done something on this beetle and got the new beam in and just had a trial fit of new wheels wot I'm gonna use.

It's on axle stands in the pic so think i may need some smaller tyre to avoid rubbage but that's solved by a trip down Sam's part worn tyres for some quality rubber.

  3. New (2nd hand) one is 2" narrower and has adjusters to get the wheels under the arches a bit as the offset is different and i have to lower my classic Vollswagens to make them as Kewl as what I am.

  4. I'll check it over as not had a close look as it was coming off. why u need beetle beam?

  5. For my beetle. First one was vent so got a secondhand one but one of the arms is loose in the tube, not the bearing as it's the bearing(poly bush) that is moving as well.

  6. I did t know you had a bug.

The old one should be plug and play as has leaves, arms and spindles on. What yr is your beetle?

  7. Yeah I got poptop2's old beetle. It's a 73 but has disc brake spindles on it

  8. I see.

I will check it out later and get back to
    You.

  10. Is this a suck through teeth builder thing?

Good news: your beam is ok

Bad news: you already promised it to someone else?

Got the big screwdriver of doom out. This is on one side of the bottom of end bit -forgotten what they are called.

The other side has been weldysploged but it solid.

I'll strip it down and eBay the springs and arms and spindles.

  13. If @pkrboo doesn' have it can i have the bare beam il pay for courier for it as the tubes are ok and I need a beam to narrow and mock up air suspension on please

  14. That could work- as long as you are not in a hurry as this quick project is now coming up to yr 4 which gives an indication of the speed things happen round here.
