Looks interesting. We'll have to wait and see what 'substantially altered' means.

  3. From the draft proposal, this is a substantial alteration:

    Criterion 1
If a vehicle has a power to weight ratio of more than 15% in excess of its original
design, unless such a modification took place before 1988.

That will require some clever computation...

I think that might effect some of us Scooby folk.

  5. Even someone with a type 4 instead of a 1600 might be concerned...

well the criteria at the moment is
    Criterion 1

If a vehicle has a power to weight ratio of more than 15% in excess

    of its original

design, unless such a modification took place before 1988

    Criterion 2

    If a vehicle as been issued with a registration number with a ‘Q’ prefix;

Or is a kit car assembled from components from different makes and model of

Vehicle ; or is a reconstructed classic vehicle as defined by DVLA guidance

; or is a kit conversion,

where a kit of new parts is added to an existing vehicle, or

old parts are added to a kit of a manufactured body, chassis or monocoque

    bodyshell changing the general

    appearance of the vehicle.

  8. haha mine was a fuel injection now an 1800 carb

  9. So.. assuming a bay weighs, say 1.7 tonnes and made 70 bhp from the factory; if you have more than 80 bhp you'll have increased the power to weight by more than 15% so will need to have a test.

So that's pretty much everyone who's added power to a stock engine and all of the scooby chaps.

  10. Type 4 is original design though and the most powerful ones were 70hp standard.

  12. Any implications or mention of MOT requirement as part of vehicle importation process?

    Same here.

  14. Youve put a major caveat in there......an mot is only an indication that it may be roadworthy. It may not!

  15. anyway your screwed on nearly all fronts as regards power output and mods. Likely if it needs an MOT it will need tax too i reckon!

  16. Surely they can't remove my tax exempt status?

I've been tax exempt for years

  17. Why? Youve got a 1600 engine that could very possibly have been modified for the current output prior to 1988. Its been repaired since but not modified!

  18. Well the 1600 engine case is the one that came with the bus when i bought it, but some of my posts on here may complicate matters! In fact it is on the v5 as 2110cc

I haven't read the document, but surely no one is proposing that currently tax exempt vehicles (like mine) will soon become taxable?

  20. Great news, I'll be fine with mine for safety cos I've already got an MOT.
