Mrs TW says get yourself down the local running club and they will show you how to do it without breaking parts. Good luck

If running is good for you, why do joggers always look so bloody miserable?

  5. Definitely train for the event - swimming or cycling for instance is going to leave you wanting when it comes to the mud run. I'm a keen mountain biker and frequently go out and for 30 miles plus with over 4500ft of climbs. Ask me to run however and my body chucks a fit after a couple of miles, the muscles are clearly being used differently so while my heart is strong the fatigue quickly sets in elsewhere.

He died you know while doing it, that yank that made jogging a life style thingy.

could you not feign injury leading up to the event, if needs be i'd break my own leg rather than excersise.

  8. Yep, Jim Fixx. Dropped down dead from a heart attack whilst out running:eek: He should of took the car!

 That's the direction my thoughts were going as I read the other replies. Breaking her leg is a bit severe though. I suggest a cushion stuffed up your jumper Sarah and claim a 'surprise pregnancy'.

you'd be supprised how far i'd go to avoid excersize.

  11. Tonight I'm going out for my friends birthday, we're going to the trampolining centre so I guess that might count as some exercise, and it should be fun

  13. I'm sure you've heard the phrase "it's not about winning, but the taking part"...most people scoff at this adage, but I happen to believe it. You'll do it (as you strike me as very capable and determined) and you'll have a really good laugh in the process...go for a few easy bike rides, a swim or two, outdoor stuff you enjoy doing, but don't worry so much about your fitness level...I cycle every day but smoke like a chimney...I'm pretty unfit really, but if it's something I have fun doing, I find the energy.....it sounds like it'll be good fun, so you'll be fine.

Swimming is better than cycling for building stamina quickly
Cycling is better than jogging for low impact exercise
brisk walking is better than cycling for general fitness
any form of exercise is better than none
Gyms are boring IMO, but each to their own

  15. It is all about the taking part and enjoying the laugh. I recently bought a road bicycle and tested it out on a maiden 60 mile beast of a ride, my misery and pain was much to the amusement of my regular cycling mates (FYI I didn't enjoy this taking part but my mates did).
If you do want to get fit then do some research, I went from zero fitness to running every day for 2 years prior to my wedding (she still caught me!), I didn't lose any weight but could run 5k easily.
It's simple.....you need to burn more calories than your taking in per day to lose weight. A great phone app is "my fitness pal", everyone I know has lost the weight on this and it educates you to good food consumption. You can lose weight just by watching what you eat and drink, you will be surprised how much good food you can eat per day so you won't go hungry.
Team sports or working out with mates is best, much Mickey taking passes the enduring pain. Swimming is one of the best exercises you can do and burns huge amounts of calories. You have enough time to get fit for the tough mudder.
Otherwise.....feign an injury as above :D
    Good luck

  16. Trampolineing done, it was brilliant fun, and much more tiring than I expected. Not sure how agile I'm going to feel in the morning

Last time I went on a Trampoline I had just herniated a disc dragging it up the front steps, then I assembled it, had a quick bounce and lay on the living room floor for a month.

  19. Running is carp unless you get someone to go with you. But it is cheap and you can go locally. Try couch to 5K app on a smart phone. It breaks you in gently and you benefit quite quickly if you go out three times a week. Keep at it - you will feel so much better!
