Well... I knew quite a lot of the "peace convoy" people and I recognise a couple of the coaches. The main gang called themselves the convoy crazies and had that and a number tattooed on there arses. They would arrive at some poor unsuspecting village and it was basically like a Viking invasion of pillaging - clearing out the local shops, scragging chickens, stealing anything that wasn't tied down etc. They existed to create as much havoc as possible. I was with them one time when they were fire bombed as part of an all out war with the locals. I know they lead to some insufferable laws but... they loved it, they didn't care at all about that, it was a game, they thought really funny. It was pure rebellion and if they weren't getting up the noses of as many people as possible on their travels they felt they were failing. But these were people who felt they had nothing to loose, jobless tearaways from no hope city areas so in a way they had there hour and were in fact quite organised all things considered c/w at least one commercial haulage style tow truck for those that broke down.

    Sooo... there is that.

A lot of them then just side stepped onto squatting areas of the K&A canal and took up fighting British waterways and then the Canal and River Trust, though admittedly as they couldn't run away as it were, they toned themselves down a bit.

And that bag of tomatoes is in the drinks cabinet so the sherry is probably in the fridge with the kettle.

I remember,in the early 80’s,I used to live up the road from a load of woods and a abandoned quarry called Vallis Vale. The crusties got in there one weekend and stayed until the police moved them on. Wrecked the place.Heard the music from where we lived. It was all Hawkwind then though…
I was a round 14 years old,and it sort of stirred my interest up for free parties…

  15. I don’t really remember seeing Hawkwind but I definitely heard them at Stonehenge in 84
    Wild times ,
That was the last Stonehenge festival
Had the miners strike not ended maybe there would of been one in 85
But not content with battling with Miners,
    They ambushed the convoy
And beat them all up o_O

  19. Yep, when the local bobby would give you a clip around the ear for stepping out of line..... ah the good old days.

    Uniformed assault.

  20. They were my second. First artist I saw live was Steve Hackett. Both of those gigs were in Birmingham Odeon in the early 80's before they turned it into a cinema.
