  1. Seems all you people changing 40 year old fuel breathers for new stuff that doesn't last a year may be doing them all again ....

    Probably just sell it lol

  3. Yes that's the worry, are some people now at a increased risk of a van fire because of the false sense of security the fitting of new fuel hose may have brought. :(

  4. Hope not ....but as they can't be visually checked you don't know

The labelling on the original picture looks like Halfords FI hose. Mine has cracks in hot corners after about a year also. I just expect it these days.

  7. I have 2 ball joint gaiters looking soft and manky. Its the poor rubber quality. Bought 2 new repro wheel cylinders for my mgb last year and never fitted them, the rubber dust covers dissolved in brake fluid! Managed to get nos ones off ebay and they are fine.

  8. I need to change mine again I bought mine from advance fluid solutions mentioned here.

  9. Most worrying was that I noticed cracks in my filler neck rubber pipe. The bit that connects the tank to the metal pipe. It was 1-2 yrs old but had only been exposed to fuel for about 1 month at the end because the van had been sat after restoration.

Also just had to change a customers cv boot which has completely split which I'd changed 2 years previously. If rubber was this quality on new cars, there'd be a recall. Why is it allowed to happen on aftermarket parts?

From what I've read you did well to get 2 years out of a cv boot.

  11. I bought ethanol resistant fuel lines from advanced fluid solutions. They are supposed to be the way forward. I haven't put them on yet so I can't comment on longevity.

5 months on track rod boots

  13. I called afs today and they didn't want to know about the state of the line, they also confirmed that others have had the same issue within a few months.

Apprently the issues down to the fuel staying in the lines and the ethanol having time to soak in.

    I didn't comment on that.

Anyway he only said that the bio fuel line is suitable but it is 5.5mm not 5.6mm and it's £14 a metre

It's actually 7.3 mm internal diameter. Tight fit but works a treat.

    £25 per metre.
Still, if that's what it takes, that's what it takes. :( Better than having to do the same job every 6 months.

..yep..mine fuel lines cracked after a year as well!..the dipstick rubber after a couple of months and the cv boot after 6 months sitting on drive and 0 miles done!..now thinking about fitting some solid pipes and using only short rubber connections to the carbs fuel pump and tank outlet pipe...
