1st time stripping & rebuilding 1600 engine

  1. One step forward two steps back. I'm working outside on a gravel / dirt drive that also slopes. This meant getting the engine back in was a nightmare unless I have to I will try and work with it insitu and see how I go. I will try to fire her up first check she actually runs.

How slopey ? i have a 2 degree slope on mine.
Shuttering or packing crate ply helps improve a bad surface.
Or a pallet . Its really much easier to put it together first, although I also remember booking into a T2D Boot Camp a way back and by the time I got there three months later I had taken the engine out of my bus five times. And also put it back five times.

Let the bus roll down to the bottom, slide the engine on a sheet of ply down as well then put it in..

  3. Interesting that you mention shuttering iv been designing the stuff for 15 years.

My engine started 3rd turn of the key a very nice feeling. It now starts instantly and the oil light goes of after half a second. Much smoother running than before too and no oil leaks that I can see at least. Just need to sort the tinwear, brakes then mot time. Hopefully I can actually use it soon.

    Big thank you to everyone.
