1978 Rustfalia

  1. Here's one i forgot to post last week... 600 lbs of rock plus trailer. Handled it like a champ!

  4. This little gem almost replaced the bus last week:

    But i've decided it's too much of a project (interior needs gutting). The bus will be around for a while. But i am still considering trading up to a water cooled double cab and a trailer for a little more space.

    My son said " cool wheels, dad. It looks like someone's bus!" Meaning that it looks like the ones he sees me looking at all the time on the web. :thumbsup:
     
  9. Welded up the studs in my bad wheel adapter... Hopefully get me by until i can get a replacement...

    Hard to see, but some of that is actually some pretty good welding!

  11. I have the great fortune to have a new friend at work who is also a bus fanatic. We took some time today (lunch break, of course!) to create this bus coolness matrix and plot some buses on it. We tried to be as objective as possible. And yes, we really did this and were mostly serious about it.
    The top left of the matrix is the top of the scale. It is represented by a barndoor samba. The bottom right is the bottom, or least cool, represented by a T4 passenger van, gas engine, auto. The matrix is generally self explanatory, with commercials being cooler than passenger vans, campers near the middle. Rarer=cooler, older =cooler.
    The dots are my bus, a modified 78 bay westy (bottom right), a 1970 stock prototype bay westy that i'm looking at(bottom right), and a 2wd t3 doka at top right. Each dot has a circle around it which represents the full spectrum of coolness that model can achieve based on condition, modification, etc. as you can see, a late bay westy can only be so cool due to its age and model specifics. An prototype bay westywould be inherently cooler due to age. An prototype bay double cab is rarer and is a commercial, so would be progressively cooler.
    The green/blue areas represent buses that are not realistic options for cool bus ownership. A t4 passenger bus would be bordering on uncool and wouldnt be an option. An early samba would be so impractical to own and drive that it would not be a realistic option (who needs to worry about paint chips ona 100 grand bus?) This assessment would of course change whether the bus was your only vehicle or your 2nd vehicle.

    It's gonna be a proper hard to decide between the two:(. Our T3 crewie was awesome for hauling stuff around (even being aircooled), the bus takes us places in more comfort. Good luck, I hope you're able to keep both....
