FOR SALE 1977 Westfalia Berlin 2L Automatic RHD

Discussion in 'Late Bay Classifieds' started by MrPotatohead, Apr 15, 2013.

  1. EDIT: Re-listed a year down the line! See below. Being a bit lazy and using same ad. New lower price though.

Originally a left hand drive but at some point converted to right hand drive.

Have owned this bus for 12 years now but it has sat in the garage for three and a half years (SORN) since September 2009. It therefore has no MOT and will require some bodywork and wake up work before MOT. Unfortunately I do not have the time, money or space to undertake this myself, so sadly I've had to admit that it's time to let it go.

The engine is 2L and has the original American fuel injection system. The block was replaced with a VEGE unit back in 2004. It starts and runs fine, but has not been driven since 2009. It has automatic transmission, which is rare but great to drive.

After we first bought the bus back in 2001 fair bit of bodywork was undertaken 2002-2004. (Entire front panel, o/s front wheel arch and door, both rear wheel arches and rear quarters, bottom 12 inches of sliding door, and a full external re spray laid on in 2004. I have various photos of the restoration in progress. The bodywork required now is on panels that were not replaced back in 2004, but now require attention.

    - n/s front wheel arch complete (including seatbelt mount)
    - both n/s and o/s sills (inner and outer)
    - battery trays
    - rear valance
    - few other bubbles are present down the long side which will require attention.
    - the rear quarter light window frame and surround.

The interior is complete and in good condition. The Berlin is widely regarded to be the finest Westfalia produced and includes:
    - orange/green Westfalia plaid throughout. The rear bench seat mattresses are not original.
    - four berths
    - ample storage
    - swing out table
    - sink
    - twin burner hob and grill
    - 3 way fridge
    - separate integrated cool box
    - 240v electric hookup
    - 12v lighting
    - Propex heater
    - revolving captain's chair

I have a comprehensive file of receipts and detail of work undertaken since we have owned the bus plus similar details of work undertaken before we owned it.

Price: £6,750 (now has a new price of £6k. See post below)

We are located in Gloucestershire near Cheltenham, and as it is not MOT'd a trailer will be required to take it away.

Please contact me at willandpetra@brinternet.com to arrange a chat/viewing. Photos below are as is along with pictures of some areas needing attention. Here's a link to my brief "ride" thread with interior pics taken before it was garaged. (Before I admitted it had to go!)

  2. OK, so I've held on to this one for the last year with the hope of finding the time/resource to get this fella up and running again but have to admit that I have too much else on my hands.

So......this is back up for sale. Still not MOT'd and it will need work to get it to that point. These buses in good nick are going for £15k-£20k+ these days, and prices don't seem to be slowing up.

Now selling as a project at £6k which still leaves plenty of room for investment and return.

Would love to know that this is with someone who can do the required work and get as much fun out of it as we have over the years. Buckets more photos if required.

Contact details still the same. Reply to this post, PM, or e-mail at willandpetra@btinternet.com. Happy to then chat and give as much info as you need.

  3. Great bus and great price fella. Am not looking to buy but thought I would give you a free bump and hope someone will buy this gem.

  4. Cheers fella. Trying to price it to sell, and not be greedy as I know it needs work to get up and running!

Forgot to add that it's now not running as the fuel line from filter to pump has perished and is now blocked off rather than leak!

  5. I've told a mate about this......if I had the funds, I'd have it off you in a heartbeat ;0)
