1973 VW Bay with 2.5 RJES Subaru Conversion

Discussion in 'Restorations' started by Llardy, May 11, 2020.

  1. Its only taken me 6 years to get to this point. Still the interior to complete but its really not far away from finishing. Do we ever finish though eh?!

1973 VW shell no engine, no gearbox, no windows, no seats, no anything really!
    Red 9 Design front suspension.
Red 9 front and rear breaks
    Forester 2.5 non-turbo
    RJES conversation
    Vintage Volhshaus exhaust
    Aircooled Auto Elec Loom
    Sick Hids headlights

What I've learnt: Dont use the first people you hear about. Do lots of research or just use these people:

Electrics: Iain @ Air Cooled Auto Electrics. Electrics and Looms.
VW and Subaru Engines/Conversion: Stef @ MACVW (Nick Tune is a another cracker for this)
VW old and new: John @ JJ's VW/Audi Wigan. Seriously clever bunch.
    Bodywork: Den @ Slambassador's.

I am sure there are many other great people but these are the best ive found over the years and all thoroughly nice too.

It takes years to find the right people. They are all right here you! If you need contact details please ask away but you'll find them all online / Google.

  2. is there a way of loading lots of pics all at once?

  3. Only if you pay Tapatalk.. otherwise its 1 at a time! Or pay to have you photos hosted and do it on the web version

  4. You don’t need to host the pics. I uploaded all mine directly to the website from the photo album on my iPhone. I only ever look at TLB on the web, not taptalk

if you really want to host them. Then I use imgbb to host mine for another forum that I use. It’s very easy and free.

  10. Wow. How long was it in the body shop being made sound again? Did you have all the work done in one go?

  11. it was there on and off for about 3 years but the build you are seeing took about 2 months. It was done once badly, it was then sat on for about 6 months and then re-done. its about 25% original! half of its a chassis is off a Californian bus. its a mamouth build for sure. I think i cleared out Alan Scholfields haha

  20. My dad had a VW Dormobile for 30 years and i spent every holiday from birth to teenager in one. We even went to Spain in it through Paris and Lyon. Many of the memories I have was having to get out of it while it went up a hill :) so i always planned on putting a bigger engine in. The suspension was suggested as it was going to be a bit nippier. Only regret is not getting Subaru gears as it cries for a 5th over 55. It was just too much money at the time.
