1973 T2 project

  1. Mikes James is dead on about the defo panel. The Brazilian panel is too tall but is otherwise a reasonably good fit. I welded tabs the the bottom of mine where it was wider. This is still easier than repairing what you have. There may still be panels closer to the original.

  2. Help / guidance required please...

Front floor and arch finally turned up so have attempted to line it all up.

Floor dosn’t marry up at all, holes are not in the correct place and panel appears to be to small. It also doesn’t fit the new new arch , is this normal ?.

Trial fitted the arch, before I attempt to make the lower panel. The arch lines up with the door pillar and bottom of front, but there is a large gap at the bottom of the door end, is this also normal, if not how can I rectify it.

    Thank

Oh, that floor doesn't look right does it? There's a lip at the bottom of the tub that it sits on which you don't currently have, but even if that was in place it looks too short.
That looks like a JK panel? Send it back and get one from Schofields instead.

The larger gap at the bottom of the door is normal, they were like that from the factory.

  4. Yes it did come from JK and it does appear to be the wrong one as it doesnt have the indent either for the accelerator bar.
Thanks for the heads up, will get that exchanged.

  5. Just spoken to Alan schofields and they do a large version of the JK panel, 054AX (made to order) so I guess that is the one you have used.

Body cut or lots of pieces of shaped metal ?

  8. yes I am taking the front panel off and also replacing the deformation panel. I am not sure however how to make the curved shape for the apillar. the outer skinf and middle skin has rotted. surprisingly the rest of the bus is fine and only needs minimal work and a respray.

  9. Just cut away at the rot and make it up bit by bit

Really? No offence but that looks like you've just covered up all the rot inside? And bad though it is/was it's not so bad as the OPs. I'd chuck both of those and find a better bus to restore.

  12. No I just didn’t take loads of pics, patched the inner bit first but it wasn’t as bad you’re right.
It’s my latest 68 single cab which does have some redeeming features

  13. While I’m awaiting for the new floor to arrive , thought I would remove the defo panel, see how bad it is , actually not to bad at all, hopefully want need to replace the other panel, just need minor repairs, but looks like it will need a new front thou :(

  14. That doesn’t look bad. How is the washer bottle panel above?

  16. New panels arrived, so decided to start tiding the bottom of the A panel, ready to take the step and new floor.

Trial fitting the new lower A panel repair panels obtained in 3 sections from Schofields, first 2 seem to line up ok and the arch lines are also good. A lot to do before anything can be tacked into place thou, maybe get so more time next week.

  17. Had a couple of spares hours today, so made a start on the front lower A panel repair.

Lined up all 3 sections and cut to fit, tacked in the front part and offered up the arch, is there normally a gap between arch and A panel section at the front ?

  18. Had another few hours on the camper today, managed to sort the lower panel, got to do a piece of patching, but happy with the result, once this sorted i can get the arch and floor into place.
