  1. It’s certainly in far better of a condition than when it arrived with you
    Well done

Today I started to strip the engine intending to swap the barrels, pistons and heads for the 1641 o es Eddie had put through the vapour blaster.

Removal of the flywheel (undoing the gland nut held in with thread lock) revealed that the crank has been redrilled at some point as the old elongated dowel holes were visible.

Taking the heads off revealed that the sealing rings were between the heads and barrels instead of between the barrels and case (I have been told this is how the sealing rings are on aftermarket heads as the recess is chamfered where the head and barrel meets allegedly)

Taking the rockers off revealed that cylinder 2 exhaust rocker is missing a spring washer.

Removal of No3 barrel revealed that a circlip was missing so the gudgeon pin moved and so wore some serious grooves in the barrel

Also discovered that the fuel pump is seized and the rocker was snapped and push rod bent....hence it has an electric fuel pump.

Forgot to mention that the flywheel oil seal hadn’t been installed fully so has partially worn through.

So the case is split and a few strange objects have been found as well as loads of silicon sealant.

There is a small chip to the gears of the cam shaft drive but the other gear on the crank appears ok.

Not yet checked the bearings but at first glance there is little wear!

The residue in the sump is a little shiny and fine to the touch so there has been metal filings going through the engine.

Will hopefully complete the strip down and clean up tomorrow.

Following a difference of opinion I have not worked on the van since May but am hoping to start work on the engine rebuild soon.

The last photos of the underside of the cargo floor following seam sealing were this

Since moving the van to Tim’s garage he has continued to do some work and the cargo floor has been painted with Rustoleum and now looks like this.
