IMG_20201016_105506042_HDR.jpg IMG_20201016_110136172_HDR.jpg A lady in our village needs to part with her 1972 Westfalia that she has owned and looked after for over 30 years as she now feels to old to use it. It is very original and has the original canvas and seat material in near perfect condition.
She has had it resprayed quite a few years ago but it's still in great condition.
I noticed a couple of bubbles low down near the front arches but nothing else.

It's at Normans Bay in East Sussex and garaged not too far away.
She is looking for around £30,000 for it.
Message me(Mike) for more details and I will do my best or call Annette (the owner) on 01323 46.
Also any useful(sensible feedback about the price appreciated)
    I have a few more photos I can send too IMG_20201016_105809767_HDR.jpg IMG_20201016_105626576_HDR.jpg

    Good luck with the sale.

My thoughts are, I think £30k is too rich by £10k in the current market.

It’s a one year only 73 model year bus or late cross’over. So72 continental Westfalia interior with front hinged roof. This was the last year of front hinged Westfalia roof and the SO72 interior.

To achieve £30k everything should be absolutely spot on like factory.

    I hope that helps.

  3. Is it just me, or does the rear bumper look wrong?

Just looks a bit bent to me.
Good luck with the sale. It does look very tidy. Unless it’s mint, I can’t see it getting close to £30k though.

In the absence of mgbman, I just checked the mot history..... not a single mention of corrosion or underseal since records began!

    Impressive!

  6. It may have got close 30k about 5 years ago but the market has tailed off a bit, split screens seem to still be high though. A top top bay off a reputable restorer only in the mid to high 20s.

  8. Poptop2 hmmm my feelings too. It's a nice van but I think people just see high prices and think that's what they will get. I will have a talk about it to her
F_pantos hmm yes does look like it has a couple of links in it.

Nice looking van though. No harm in putting it at 30k just to see if she gets any interest

  12. The van looks great and ownership for the past 30 years is a big plus and it looks well cared for from the photos. I think 30k asking price is optimistic, but you never know. Are you going to help the lady deal with potential buyers, and viewings, test drives etc as this may be daunting for her. I am getting on a bit myself and have decided that when the day comes, my son and grandson will get my van and the mgb rather than me go through the aggravation of dealing with strangers.

Maybe you can talk with the owner and discuss the issues, maybe it would be better to garage it for the winter away from the sea air and look to sell it next spring, when the buyers are out in force.

Looks like a twin of my bus. If it’s 72 then a couple of months younger.

I’d have thought it would be about £5-10k over with a real guess, but who knows with originality.
Mine is somewhat less original than that.

Definitely a 73.Model year bus. That model was only made ( actually in production ) between August 73 and August 74 So would yours be!

Had to edit that as I was in the wrong cross over year mode .

Yeah mine was Feb ‘73 according to VW. Don’t know how long they sit in Westfalia while being fitted out.
Looks identical spec - except the seats (replaced on mine before I got it and since) so it’s nice to see what the originals were like, and the white headlight surrounds (screws up face ).
But my grille is also now L90D or whatever the code is.
That has some gauges too, very posh.

I edited it. They were all made between 73 and 74. My bad I was in early cross over mode

    I had this in 1990 it was a 73
I sold it to the proprietors of New Forest Herbs
They hand painted it pink and within a decade it was left to rot in their front garden :(

  18. Mgbman,

I'd love to help her sell it but I live in France most of the year and am only here for another week! I tried to convince her to sell in spring when I am back for longer but she wants to try now.
Gingerbus- the white headlight surrounds aren't original or are they?? For me, they have to be chrome!
I normally sell on eBay, where else is worth advertising?
