More pain...,I found Swiss cheese when cleaning my exchangers...guess I should have left the crud on them!
On the plus side I did receive a load of new bits today The quality of the tinware panel nearest the front is unbelievably shocking!! Once I've cleaned it up and given it a lick of paint it should be ok though...
Oh......very tempting.... Ill probably have them off you Steve. Ill let you know next week if that's ok Nick
Started the build this weekend..... Got the crank and cam in Then got the halves together. After first trial fit I realised something wasn't quite right. Took case half back off and realised a cam bearing had fallen out of the right case half. Much swearing and wishing for a third hand later, I got them together Lubed up the pump, looks like I got a little bit excited..... Then I started on the B&P's. After getting completely covered in oil I managed to get them on. Help from the old man came in very handy here. Think it sped up the process having someone else to help. Was getting excited now as it is starting to look more like an engine and less like a pile of scrap!
Next up was head installation. I put some sealer on the pushrod tubes just to be sure Then installed the heads. Four hands were useful here too! I set the rockers and then started to add some ancillaries on before dinner called Hope to finish it off this week ready to put it back in on Saturday.
Wonderful job. I like the color of the block as well. I never think to paint mine when it's out , guess I'm to busy thinking about getting it back in.
Thanks midmusq, I wasn't going to paint it, but then I had to wait for my crankshaft so I went for it! Glad I did now. Nick
Haha! Yeah maybe I could add a coal fired kers type system...... Did some more tonight Had to bend the hell out of this brand new bit of tin to get it anywhere close to fitting. I reckon vwh just found a bit of bent metal and sold it as tinware! Anyway it's on now. Then started to add a few more bits This is as far as I got tonight. Heat exchangers, exhaust and manifold on. I've put my dodgy heat exchangers on but I think I'll have yours of you zed! More tomorrow!
Did some more tonight. Installed my flaps (wahey!) built up the fan housing and installed it. Mounted the carb and the coil. Getting close now. Looking good for installing it on Saturday. Woop woop!
