1600TP Manifold bellows - where can I get good ones?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by orangefeeling, May 29, 2016.

  1. A trip out has shown the van still seems down on power. Just had a quick look and the brand new manifold rubber has split. Done less than 50 miles

They were supposedly the good heritage ones and the clips was nice and new and shiny and I didn't clamp it too tight.

Anyone know where I can get ones that last a little longer? Don't fancy having to change them every 50 miles!!

    Cheers

  2. I've stumbled across empi two part boots that are put on without taking the manifold off.

Judging by all the other empi parts I've bought they will be made of old rubber bands and the clips from reformed dairylee wrappers, but does anyone think it might work.

Clutching here really, don't really want to take the manifold ends off again!!

I tried super strong duct tape as an experiment to see if the engine would run with a jubilee clip holding a rocker arm on when I blew up the boot with backfiring when the rocker arm fell off... The engine ran. But the flywheel had started parting company with the crank..

GSF black cheap boots have lasted me over 9k miles on my new engine....or just over a year so far..

  6. I like gaffa tape as a short term fix, I'll whop a bit on as then at least it's mobile again until I get a boot ordered and fitted.

On checking past orders I have the heritage ones on the bug as well and they are doing fine, only about 2k miles and 6 months but look like new.

Maybe I was just unlucky with this one....

  7. Gaffer tape ! It has a light side and a dark side and holds the universe together

  8. Phoned VWH, they were very good about it to be fair and sent out two new boots free of charge. Still a pain that I have to strip it down to fit them, but at least I'm not fuming that I had to pay for the replacements.
