1. Quite surprised nobody's used a familiar Yorkshire exclamation yet...

He was probably responsible for that twisty section of the A24 up past Box Hill being made single-carriageway to slow traffic down and stop cars sliding off.

Was it the Cock roundabout by Dorking Halls? That always makes me laugh, what a symbol to pick..

3. Yes, what were they thinking with that giant silver cockerel on a roundabout! At least it gets randomly decorated.

I came off at the roundabout just before the station, heading south. Was very pleased with myself for having finished off a 4 person paella, along with the rest of the tapas, and not fallen asleep on the way home. 3 miles out from my destination and I was in a heap on the floor (nothing dangerous about the tumble other than a chunk out of my foot because 250kg of bike, via brake pedal, landed on it).
Lady biker stopped to help. I asked if she knew how I came off. She pointed out the 20 meter long line of oil I hadn’t seen.
Said some fella called mikedjames left it there - but this was 2010 so I didn’t know what she was on about!

My Marina was operational from 1985 to 1989 - around 30000 miles of driving including a lot in Lane 1 of the M25 at 75-80mph when it was London's 110 mile race track.

So the oil slick had another 21 years to mature. Also I tended to be round Redhill and south rather than Dorking.

I was quite fond of my Tahiti blue 1300L Marina four door in 1988. My brother borrowed it and used it to right off another Tahiti blue Marina coming towards him round a blind bend. He was a bit of a serial Marina killer - he dispatched four altogether.

7. As a teenager in the late 70s our parents dragged we three reluctant kids down to Yugoslavia (when it WAS Yugoslavia..) on an impromptu summer 'jolly' ..
Choice of propulsion was a knackered Marina , replaced the exhaust within a few miles of getting off the ferry in Holland...
BUT ...
Despite all the bad press I loved that car , a top adventure-wagon and won't have a word said against the lowly Marina, shameful writing off of a British classic shouldn't be taken lightly- hang your head in shame
