I know that feeling - before I re-torqued my leaking heads it didn't feel quite right but not noticeable unless I put my foot to the floor... which I barely ever do. Much the same as you - I loose a cylinder I still have an 1800. Funny, that's one thing Rob said - the downside is that if it's not running well you don't notice. A 1600 looses a cylinder, it grinds to a halt.

I was well impressed with @mikedjames's oscilloscope (make off that as you will). It was a really quick way of checking the cylinder relative operation.

Hope it all goes well @paulcalf and thanks to everyone who helped me change my ignition switch and sort out my lumpy engine following 90 mins in stop start traffic. One good thing about the Weber 34ict is how easy the idle valves can be checked and cleaned...hope the taste of petrol has gone Mike :D

  3. Rac contacted at about 9.30am.
Said they would send a patrol in 90mins.

I tired telling them I definitely needed a low loader, but they wouldn't listen.

11.30 RAC patrol man rang to say 20mins. He agreed it was pointless coming. He was great & immediately ordered the low loader.

Low loader people rang and said they would be there between 12-3.

Just rang again to say hopefully be here by 5pm.

I'm actually having a very relaxing time reading my book waiting for them at the campsite.

Very glad not to be on the side of the road!

Tell them you're stopping another night and to send the low loader in the morning, otherwise you'll be trekking home during rush hour. I hope you get the problem sorted soon and are back out adventuring in the camper

  5. Wish I'd called them on Sunday and booked it for Monday morning!

I didn't do that as I didn't know which location I was going to ask them to take me.

Possibilities were Isle of Wight, Essex or Sheffield!

Still enjoying it though, just had the stereo on full whack for an hour.

  7. I'm feeling an idiot for not contacting them on Sunday to book it for Monday am.

I could have always changed the location!

    Pick up at 7pm now.

    I'll have my tea here

£10 per night. It’s probably cheaper than staying at home

Glad you got back okay Paul, and that the engine investigation / fixing is underway! Feeling much improved today, although took the day off work as my voice hasn't fully returned and I don't want to sound too sexily husky in front of the young lads ;)
