Head room?

1. Hello all, another newbie question.

So I have a high top, which I like many of the benefits of, however as I use my bus for lots of day trips and outings I’m finding that a number of places I want to take the bus have height restrictions on the car park entrances etc, so what I’m wondering and my question is how feasible (and costly) would it be to remove the high top and have a “pop top’ type roof fitted?

Any one ever done this? im guessing the most difficult part would be sourcing the ‘exchange’ roof?

A couple of companies do new replacement pop tops, it really depends how big your hole is.
Even pop tops have hight issue at car park barriers, an un lowered bus is a bit tight at a 2.1 m one.

A lot of it will depend on how much of your gutters are left, when the high-top is removed.

My lowered Devon bus with pop top and roof vent is 1.97m which is convenient for a lot of city car parks.

5. Just measured, roughly, my Devon poptop with vent and it comes in at around 208cm (6’8”). Not lowered and not much in it at the moment...not even an engine so it might go down a few cm when loaded.
Crickey, it’s the height of a decent basketball player - I am not tall!! haha Looks high to me.
mikedjames you must be able to see over the top of yours.

It’s possible depending on how much of your roof is still intact, budget around £3-4K for removal and refitting

It's a brave man who drives towards a 2.1m barrier without slowing.

8. I once, in my VW pickup, dislocated my shoulder whilst turning round to grin at the girls in the car behind me, as I slowly scraped under a multi-storey car park barrier.
Lesson learned. Know the limits of both your vehicle and body!! ha ha

9. My Viking roof pop top is a monster nice when it’s up but a pain park, as others have said you can pic up a nice second hand west roof depending on your hole cut in roof or a Devon moonraker, you may be lucky with the gutters.

10. we have a roof rack and jerrycan on our tintop, makes for nervous driving under barriers and low bridges!
