I've decided to fit a bed up in the pop top to provide another option when camping with the kids and maybe for an adult. Having seen a few others doing similar, my plan is to cut the boards to rest on the frame of the roof opening and make them removable when they are not needed. All the other versions I've seen have been on other conversions whereas mine is a 72 Danbury which presents a challenge...the roof springs / struts are mounted on either side of the roof opening and are in the way of the roof frame. Not a problem I hear you say, just cut around the support bracket....which is fine but when closed, the springs / struts get in the way. This is a problem only when the roof is closed so my plan is to stack the boards, 2 at the front and 2 at the back and move them into place when camping. I did think about fixing a length of angle iron to either side of the roof opening to clear the poptop mechanism but for some reason the sides are at 45 degree angles making this difficult. I have bought a massive sheet of 18mm ply (I wanted it to be as strong as possible!) Wish me luck
Had an hour at lunch time today so I cut all the wood to size. The rear two will stack as per the picture and the front one will slide back to create the bed base Undecided on whether to cover the entire boards in the same carpet material as the inside of my pop top or just the top side. Might just do the top and see how it looks. Next is fitting the 45 degree strips flush with the roof frame to stop the boards sliding side to side. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Today was spent dodging thunder storms and adding some carpet to the top of the first board. Also added some screws to 100% secure the strips. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

@mattw Did you get this finished? What did you use as a matress? How did the kids find it sleeping up there? I’m about to start on mine so any advice will be much appreciated.
yes all finished for now. I had a short thin mattress that fits up there as a temporary solution as only one of my kids sleeps up there at the moment - he loves it!
