Great big massive *****.................. Today was to set the timing very loosely using tried and trusted methods - hand spin the engine over with the right hand side valve cover off so I can see when cylinder 1 is at TDC (both valves closed and distributor in the right place) and also do the valve clearances. Starts to turn the engine, then it stopped and wouldn't move so, turn it the other way and the same - at the same time I noticed that when rotating one way then the other I have end float of around 3 mm.......... Didn't have this before when I first put the engine back together?? So - anyone in the Leeds area who could pop over and tell me if the engine is a waste of space or what I should do next?
Not forgotten as still on the engine stand. But before I put all the bits on like tinware, zorts etc, I had no issue turning the engine with next to no end float? OK - I will take it off the stand and put it on my work bench followed by the flywheel and see what 'appens.
Dizzy is out. OK - must be the flywheel being out so will stop sulking and go out in a bit and have ago on getting the engine on the workmate and the flywheel on.......
If you must, turn it while pushing on the pulley and it won't jam. With the distributor fitted as above.
Phew - everything is OK - thanks Zedders Flywheel attached and dizzy back in - the dizzy shaft was good. Engine turns no issues and the float is minuscule so all good
