If you get worried about the competition, don't forget to report them over their VW sign!!!

  5. Another night in the workshop as the deadline is creeping up a bit quickly.

    Tonight was steering based.

Before we could mount the steering box we needed to mount the steering column.

But before we could do that we needed to know where the seat was going.

So seat mounting was first. We fitted a length of box front to back inside the log

Then angled the seat back a bit for comfort and welded them together

Then we could set the angle of the column and box and mount them

The triangle section is foot supports and to give us somewhere to mount the brake pedal

Steering wheel has been lightened, just the boss for that to knock up and a few extra welds and the steering is done.

Just the tracking to set, adjust the bakes properly and a final tightening and welding check over, a couple of test runs, then I can start the decorating...

I like the clever use of a hand drill for the steering box, but if it's anything like my single cog one it may slip. Hope it's a posh one with the balancing cog.
Still, all the steering force when the main cog bit is possibly held on with a small screw would worry me brakes or no brakes!
    4 days to go...

  15. You worry too much, it'll all be fine

I would really love to but we're going due North. I'm actually having a holiday at the end of my road, but it is the A1. I'm missing techenders as well. :(

  19. You won't miss much at techenders, I won't be there ;)

Try and have a good trip

I'll try my utmost but without you I think it'll be a mere shadow of what it could be. (sigh).
