I don't think anyone would be advising you to move to London and join the house-buying rat-race there if you asked for advice.

  3. No from the research my wife has done plenty of work for teachers, bit off topic but she has been thinking of giving up her well paid job to become a teacher.

That sir is one of the many many fields of sunflowers grown around here.

Yes we get the high flying jets but so high only see no hear. I did look on one of the tracker apps before we moved out and it showed no planes over here.

Sorry I should of put a warning up 'DO NOT LOOK DIRECTLY INTO THE BRIGHT THING IN THIS PICTURE WITH YOUR NAKED ENGLISH EYES'. :D

No need to learn another language, just do what the English do, talk slower and louder in English. ;)

Embrace his opinion and pity him for being Welsh, you're lucky mate, I live close enough that he visits me.....
Seriously though (and I'm not defending him 'cos he's a mate) - not that he cares anyway I'm sure, but you asked people's opinions, he gave his, you didn't like it but you kept poking him with a stick - he didn't really direct his opinion at you just in general (from what I see anyway) life really is too short to get wound up on a bleedin vw forum.

He's not a bully but he is a tool. And he's Welsh (well sort of) in a knees up mother br0wn type of way.

Its all great until your body gets like your bus and you find yourself dying slowly overseas without the NHS and having nowhere affordable to live in the UK when you crawl back demanding medical assistance after you sold the house in the UK, and the dream property is worth peanuts because you discover there was never a legal right of access or permission to build. Like Spain.

  19. With all due respect I don't think this is fair. I tried my best to accept his opinions and (although I didn't necessarily agree), I didn't comment on any of his numerous posts until page 6 of the thread. I didn't get upset until the "Say hello to Dorothy and a Toto for me." comment which I still think is rude and unnecessary.

 :) That's certainly true. I'm happy to admit that I did get wound up here, and that it was foolish of me to do so. You live and (hopefully) learn. Can we forget about it now?

  20. For the time being Spain is out of the picture. My limited understanding of the French health system though is that it's very good. I know it's not as straight-forward as the NHS (you need insurance) but what I hear is mostly positive.

Planning to keep most of the money in a UK property if we do go. Would probably rent a place in France for an extended period before selling this place, too. Don't want to cut-off completely and agree that the UK market is probably a safer investment.

A couple round the corner with a similar 3 bed house are moving to Denmark and renting out their place. They're getting over £2000 / month guaranteed rental income direct from the UCL - their place is going to be student digs. The university manages the property and tenants so it looks to be low hassle as well as slightly better money than you'd get on the open market. The only downside is you have to meet fairly strict health & safety regs. so there would be a bit of work to do to get the house ready. Still, it's food for thought.
