  1. Glad you said that as I've been worrying about this

  2. I meant to also add that you nip up the nuts/bolts when tensioned... Depending on how many miles a year you do, then you might only need to re-tension it once every 6 months

  3. This is the other set up...

Although I would say that if you are looking at this option, then the alt is different, and I would advise changing the pulley on the alt to the free-wheeling sprag clutch type... As VW had issues with the crankshaft bolt undoing and the cam drive gear wrecking the end of the crankshaft

  4. I had seen this set up and mine as well. I was just going to check mine was the correct alt' as I didn't fit it in the end as I've been working away off and on the past few weekends. But it seems to be the older set up without the tension pulley.

  5. I've got both versions

I got the pictured type first, but the alt was second hand, and it'd died, and then I picked up the earlier one that you have for like £20 off ebay, and I'm running that one instead :)

  7. Engine in but will be back out as one side needs raising a little and bottom of gearbox bell housing needs shaving.

  8. Engine loom out and being sent to someone that will revise it quickly rather than me taking weeks, doing it wrong and kna******g the process up. Enquiring re exhausts. Prob' going to go for something like this. But prob' bend the tail so it's more like the original.

  11. Heater matrix would be more effective if you plumbed it so it recirculated the cabin air through it

  13. Use the flap box/air diverter that was fitted to later vans/microbuses... You could switch between the two then :)

  15. Well we are v nearly there. May have been up and running for Stanford Hall but there was a mix up with the 'loom man' re the reprogrammed ECU and key. Hoping to be all ready to run by the end of this week. Just waiting for the ECU and key to be returned and ready to fit.

  16. ECU, Key and married up Immobiliser on the way. Once running the real problem solving can begin ; cooling, gear change etc

  17. It's now taking a touch too long. Mrs K has been on mine and the mech's case !!!! Hopefully we may have some life from it this weekend.
