  3. Pretty much what @zed said earlier.

Whatever reasons there may be to not vote Labour, it seems to be hard to find a rational reason to vote Tory.

That's about the size of it.

  6. We now have a Tory MP the first time in 113 years. I'm shocked, I think its cos loads of tossers voted UKIP & Pliad & wasted their vote. The Labour canditate lives not far from me and comes from a working class background. The Tory one lives miles away and is a toff. I wasn't going to vote but decided to vote labour, I don't like Milliband but I liked the labour candidate from our area. The Tory only won by 25 votes shocking! :(

  7. To be fair any party that got into power had to get more money from somewhere and continue controlling the costs...... Even labour coughed and looked the other way anytime the question was asked...

Really, do you think they really had any real power as they were only there to make up the numbers for Dave and his mates .

  10. Isn't everyone entitled to vote how they like? at least those 'tossers' as you put it bothered. I don't know which constituency but take a look at the figures for turnout and direct the blame towards those that didn't show up and take part in the process.

  11. David Cameron was visiting a Glasgow primary school and the class was in the middle of a discussion about words and their meanings.
The teacher asked Mr Cameron if he would like to lead the discussion on the word 'Tragedy'.
So the the prime minister asked the class if they could think of an example of a tragedy.
A little boy stood up and said, 'If my best friend is playing in the field and a tractor runs over him and kills him, that would be a tragedy.'
'Incorrect,' said Cameron, 'That would merely be an accident.'
A little girl stood up and said 'If a school bus carrying thirty children drove over a cliff, killing everybody inside, that would be a tragedy.'
'I'm afraid not', said Cameron, 'That's what we would call a great loss'.
The room went silent. No other kid volunteered. Cameron searched the room.
'Isn't there someone here who can give me an example of a tragedy?'
Finally, little Johnny raised his hand from the back of the class and said, 'If a plane carrying you and all the Tory M.P.s was hit by a missile and blown to smithereens, that would be a tragedy.'
'Fantastic!' exclaimed Cameron, 'And can you tell me why that would be a tragedy?'
'Well,' said little Johnny, 'It has to be a tragedy, because it certainly wouldn't be a great loss, and it probably wouldn't be an accident either!

  14. My issue with that train of thought is that although the deficit was low in percentage terms before the crash, the income was based on boom time tax receipts from people spending borrowed money. It was the collapse in Government revenue that led to the massive annual deficit from 2010 onwards.

Increased spending needs to be funded from increased taxation, not increased public debt, but Labour dare not say that as it's considered to be political suicide.

Maybe we get what we deserve in the end, since we all want better services, but are not willing to pay for them. Politicians are dishonest with the electorate, because the electorate is dishonest with itself.

The tax returns should be enough to cover public spending as they stand. The fact corporate tax and offshore power companies etc add very little to our pot doesn't help.

There are is also a lot of personal tax dodging that is going on too. The poor are just that ' poor'.Granted we do have cars and inside toilets now, but take s look at what and where we are taxed. Tax on car insurance. Wtf is that all about. Vat at 20% again wt....

Quite so. When the rich/poor gap widens, the rich squirrel away their money or invest it, the poor spend it all and are taxed.

  18. Tax evasion / avoidance is a big issue for anyone in Government and that's why they like VAT, because it's easy and cheap to collect and hard to avoid (for shop spending at least). Overseas visitors to the UK from the EU pay it as well, so it acts as a tourist tax.

  19. trubble with VAT is its the rich business men that can fiddle it or pay less . If everyone paid the right amount and the gov didnt squander it ,things might be a bit different but they wont .

  20. Yeah, like taking the family out to a meal and claiming the VAT back ;)
