Soapbox racer build for the Eastnor Castle show. (Redbullwho)

  1. We've got a couple of ideas for suspension and a way to make the steering less twitchy.

It'll be at the camper and bus show, but I may need to find a towbar

I've been studying as I'm sure you have!
I reckon you're doing right thing by sitting at the back, those jumps land them on their noses, that's what you need to design for.

You're a dead cert @Beaver, don't take this wrong, but all the others in the vids are blokes. They need more lady drivers. A bit like this forum really.

  4. Yep, got to get my weight at the back, a good landing looks to be the key.

Ive got the guys who make these in my corner, so plenty of little car building expertees to tap into

    sANDYbAY On benefits-won't sponsor!

Does there have to be two riders?

  11. Application has to be with them by the end of this month, I should find out if I'm in by the end of April

  12. No, has to be a team of 4, with a maximum of 2 riders. I wouldn't ask want the respinsibility of a passengers safety. Hurting myself is one thing, but I don't want to maim anyone else

Quite right. You'll be fine of course, but best go solo just in case. :)

  14. The guy martin speed programme did a gravity racer last year and their research decided that 20" bmx wheels were the best size for that. I've got hold of some bmx wheels to use, I figure that they're designed for doing stunts etc so should be fairly tough.

I want to get it built with enough time to get some decent driving practice in, and make some adjustments if needed.

A lot of the ones in the videos look like they've not been in them before

I must say I have a lot of respect for RedBull, apart from the poisonous Marmitee they sell. A company that doesn't really exist. Everything subbed out. Just and idea, marketing and control. Perfect, you could run redbull from your bedroom and they do or sponsor a hell of a lot of enjoyable real things. What's not to like?

I think peeps maybe have been using pram wheels which were never meant to take the beating. Axles will need to be strong? BMX supported each side.

  17. The rears definately supported both sides, I don't think the front will be as simple.

It's helpful to see where others have gone wrong, but another part of thinks the better it goes and stands up to the punishment the further and faster it'll go which might not be so good. One way or another...
    eh? :)
