Greetings, Some of you may remember me putting a thread in the modified shizzle section a while back titled thinking scooby. Well I thought about it and took the plunge. I did a bit of research regarding garages and chose a small family run garage in Aberystwyth called J's garage. The journey begins.... Some of you may recognise this portly fellow who gave me a much appreciated hand with his trailer on more than one occasion. Out with the old Ej20 After much deliberation I decided to go for the subtle look with the powder coating.
Steve I like my bus looking sheddy, there's too many shiney buses around. Anyway the engine bay was painted.
All Rjes bits on this conversions including bell housing and rad pack The engine bay was red, black, green and red oxide, so it's now the same colour as the roof.
Engine in, road tests carried out everything was groovy ready for me to collect. This is where my slight tale of woe began...... @Top Banana Racing gave me a lift to the garage and I set off in the bus on my 3 hour journey back home. The van performed well, better than my expectations, until 1 mile from my home, when the gearbox decided to implode I bought the box less than a year ago with this conversion in mind. It's a 5 rib recon box bought from a gearbox "specialist" who had reconned it. At least it's still under warranty I thought, oh yeah, I phoned the guy I bought it from no reply, I looked up his website online it's gone, fb page gone. He's vanished from the earth. *******ed off I was. At this point I was sweating it as I'd spent all my funds. Lucky for me J offered to take the engine and box out for me and put it all back in when the box was fixed free of charge. The mighty @Top Banana Racing then trailered it back to Aberystwyth and the box was fixed by cogbox. First gear had disintegrated, whilst he had it I had a longer 4th fitted. So after all this I finally made what I really hope is my last journey to Aberystwyth today and picked it up. It's a long trip but I had a big cheesy grin on my chops the whole way home.
I'm keeping my propex cheers Matt Ive heard varying reports of the heat produced by the scooby conversions, so I didn't bother.
You do realise it is law that you race and burn off T4's and T5's......and Citroen Saxo's......and some Fiestas and in my case an Alfa Romeo 4C (whilst I believe I was winning I had to conclude he simply never noticed).
