Jaywick - How did it get that bad?

  1. Ha I was going to type this almost word for word! I too thought he was a bell end until round about the time of the paxo interview. But now the more I hear him the more I like him, he's got the biggest and best political voice for me at the moment,
I liked that link rickroo put up a while back for " the trews", been watching them all. I refuse to vote for any of those other chuffers, if brand were to put himself up ,well...
    Pretty crazy huh!

  3. I think the really interesting thing about where he's coming from is empowering the individual through enlightenment...not in a spiritual sense, although I know he's a really strong advocate of meditation....more a case of exploding some of the myths and hypocrisies about the present set-up, in a way that people can understand...challenging perceived notions about what life should be about....he doesn't claim to have all the answers, as do most politicians, but he does believe that putting the information out there without all the bullsh*t and spin, people can and will find a way to sort stuff out for the better.
The truth may well be painful, but at least we can then try to address it collectively, rather than be conned by one side or the other with shallow promises or more of the same

Whats the matter with you lot they are just humans
They just have a different life to the rest of us
It's not there fault they don't have the same views on life
Not everybody is born with the same values

This is surposed to be a friendly site but you lot are all snobs

Think you read it wrong Kev.
I've got no issue with how they choose to live their lives:
I've got a problem with having to pay for it, and I've got a problem having to work my tits off to be able to afford the same things they do.
Nothing "snobby" about that in the slightest.

but the young lad had autisim, he had to have shiny things to keep his mind active..... and they really needed 2 guinea pigs,2 dogs, 4 snakes..... plus it takes skill and time to make spaggheti spiders for tea.

  11. Not meaning to put words into Kev's mouth but think it is more along the lines of the benefit bashing going on. (Or at least perceived bashing).

Think everyone agrees that those that play the system are plums.

Are they though? The system is there and they have the wherewithal to play it to the max.

That is exactly the point. It's like the latest tax dodging. They exploited the system, and why not.

If BP had a system where they gave away £20 worth of fuel between 3.30 and 4.30am every Sunday I expect lots of us would become early risers.

It's the systems which need fixing.

I had friends that I fell out with who bought a fairly delapidated house for £40K in about 1995. She was "on the sick" and he joined her within a year. For 20 years we the tax payer paid the interest on their interest only mortgage while they claimed all they could, ducked and dived for cash and improved the house a bit. After 20 years they sold it for £280k and moved to Scotland where she'd just inherited a £600k house. So after doing nothing for 20 years they are now lords of the manor with a quarter of a million in the bank. Life is what it is and will never be fair.

  15. Why would you post on here to clearly attempt to defend the indefensible. It's wrong that people get paid more on benefits than people that work hard. Particularly if the amounts they get are as stated in the program. Yes it is possible we've been lied to or misled or it was an extreme case that was quoted. I think it probably is true and that its repeated hundreds or thousands of times. It's immoral that the system allows this and I accept if it's on offer people will take it. I'm saying the whole thing needs shaking up and others are saying we shouldn't do that because some multi millionaires aren't paying tax. not sure how that logic works. These people are of no use to society and if we stopped their benefits tomorrow unless they worked would they work or starve to death. Frankly if they are capable of working they should.

@Dicky, if that was aimed at me I'm not defending anyone, just being realistic. I do so hate being at the same time perpetually skint and yet being one of the 10% of the population that pays for prescriptions. I suggest that figure may also represent the % of the uk population that are neither old, young or claiming benifit of some kind. In other words the squeezed middle - the tax payer and it seems there aren't so many of us.

  17. A big problem is the asthetics of the place. The houses are not really fit for purpose as we know it, they are effectively portakabins and temporary wooden houses and prefabs. The roads are not proper roads, just concrete which breaks up over time. And the whole lot is built next to the sea with its salty air , so the inevitable dilapidation and corrosion happens a whole lot faster than if the town was constructed in leafy Buckinghamshire. You could put 100% decent hard working people with disposable income in there, it will STILL look depressing just maybe less so as they would at least cut the grass, paint the peeling wood and tidy up. Then you have the local economy based on tourism. Quite who would choose to holiday in a place with no pleasing asthetics is beyond me when you can find some 30 minutes up the coastline.
Then you fill the town with uneducated lazy folk on benefits. Who inevitably have more kids who end up on benefits as there is no work. Who have even more kids who end up on benefits because there is no work. You end up with a local society made up of people who have never worked and have no intention of ever working because our generous society means they don't have to. And with no impetus to get the community together and try as sort the place out, ie: everyone tidy up, paint their fences, club together or try to get government funding to maybe open up a few seafront shops to attract tourism the place will just spiral downwards to an even bigger Marmitehole.

On a bigger scale, Hastings is like that but on a much grander scale. I spent a lot of my childhood down there and have family in the surrounding villages. But I am embarrassed when I am there. If you look at the promenade shops they are really run down and depressing, some closed, boarded up, empty with faded paint and plastics. It's not rocket science for the local council to sort it out, maybe force the buildings owners to let people lease the shops for free and make the place less depressing. Instead people with a lot of spare cash go to Brighton instead, which is like Dubai in comparison.

  18. But to answer the original question in one ( or two ) words, the reason our general society ( not just that village ) is in such a state is our " benefits system " full stop. It affect so many tiers of our society and morals and ways of thinking of a whole chuck of the population that society has collapsed. And its too late to get it back. However I do have quite an unpalletable solution to try to fix it.....

  19. Nope it wasn't.
