I know I'm an interfering busybody, but before you make too many and find anything bigger than a matchbox falls out, wouldn't the hinge be more practical somewhere like here? Then again I know you're not daft.
Not rude or interfering Steve, you're not daft either so I appreciate any help or suggestions which could prevent me making a stupid mistake, and I've made plenty of those in my time. The pictures didn't really show clearly what I intend. I'll be fitting straps to limit how far down the door goes, it will get as far as horizontal which gives me a curved 'floor/wall' to put stuff on. I've used some masking tape to demonstrate what I mean. This is looking down into the cupboard from normal standing height. Here it is looking on level with the cupboard And these are from the side I think it will work and also give useable storage space. One of the reasons I thought about high cupboards is I always feel guilty when I have to wake the dog up and move her around the van while I get the makings out for coffee or tea first thing in the morning.
Gotcha. I think. Everything will slosh about while you drive, but that doesn't matter because the door will catch it when you open it.
I think I'll wind up with mugs, glasses and a cafetiere plus coffee and tea bags so I'll probably build supports lined with foam so as the door closes it holds everything securely and prevents the glass and china banging into each other.
you've blown it now. I was trying to work out how to make a real word with tr and a bunch of swearwords
This is looking really good - My overhead cupboards are a work in progress, and the design is a rather boring normal cupboard-shaped one compared to yours! I had the same question in my head as @zed did re not having a lower shelf, but it looks the mutts nuts and the way you are planning it will give you some really good customised storage that I'm growing rather jealous of and I love the idea of having all the makings of a cuppa in one place. I'll also be following your inset led lighting with interest PS - as far as not disturbing the dog with opening cupboards goes, I leave the makings of my first cup of tea on the top the night before, all ready for when I wake up, and my main concern is not letting the hound steal my warm space in the bed while I'm making it. I've finessed the technique of making a cuppa without even getting out of bed off to, well I guess some might say "a tea"!
You are FAR more organised than I am getting tea in the morning but with a great big Labrador in a tiny van Chloe would be fast asleep spread all over the floor in the evening if I tried to get all the makings out the evening before. Come to think of it Chloe is generally spread all over the floor in the van whatever the time of day (or night). It would seem that "spread all over the floor" is our dogs natural condition.
I'll be routing two channels into the bottom of the cupboards, the channel nearest the window will hold the curtain track and the other will hold a long strip of LED's. I'll have a play later to decide if I want four separate light strips, one on each cupboard switched independently or one long strip the whole length of all four cupboards.
