That's what I thought Steve, I'm no welder but it looks eminently repairable. I'm pinning my hopes on the fact that the guy who's doing the welding for me actually repairs the radar dish covers they have on warships. They're probably made of carbon fibre composite or some other posh material but if he can work to the standards demanded by the MOD then my little glass fibre Poptop hopefully shouldn't present him with too many problems.
A couple of pictures showing the method used to fix the headlining and curtain. For my reference when I'm putting it back together but they also might help others with the same poptop.
Bit further on the roof now. This is the VW vent in the centre of the Poptop. We've never opened it the whole time we've had the van and as you can see its been leaking a tiny bit and has started to spoil the headlining. So I've decided that I'm going to alter the lift up bit and fasten and seal it permanently onto the Poptop and put the new headlining straight across so the vent doesn't show from inside. Here's where it is at the moment, waiting to go back on the van for its trip to the welders. Do you think there's a market for used, slightly rusty staples?
That's what I was trying to say but getting the reply to load up was taking so long I got bored and went away to do something else.
I've just ordered some stretchy carpet to cover all the hot air pipes above the kick panels so they aren't quite so 'in your face'.
