This is still brilliant and following intensely. Wish I could weld half as good as that.

great work buddy! looking forward to seeing your progress

  3. Cheers guys.
Won't be doing much for a few months as can't get hold of an offside rear quarter cut for love nor money and leg in plaster and probably won't be good for many weeks to come........... not happy but never mind ;)

  4. Nice work on the roof & the welding. :)

  5. you don't need me to tell you that that is good work there dude, well done.

  6. Nice work, great looking bus

  7. Thanks for the positive comments

  8. Ok - leg now out of the boot and hobbling around now so managed to get a couple of hours in this afternoon :D

Decided to join the two halves of the tray together so a few pictures:

    Welded together:

Tidied up and smeared some rust protector on:

Tomorrow, if the weather not to bad ill add some primer, filler, paint then eventually seam sealer.

Still struggling to get the off-side rear quarter cut - cheers for looking :D

  9. Didn't do anymore that weekend but managed to get an hour in this Sunday.
Got some seam sealer on to the repair so next week will treat to some paint - a few pictures (not really exciting......)

Also, the front off-side wheel was stuck when we pushed it on to the drive last year so put the rear of the van on the floor and lifted the front off-side to have a look.
Once I got the wheel off I checked the caliper and apart from some spiders webs, didn't look to bad, so used a large bar and turned the wheel so result.

    A picture:

So - next week if the weather is good, will put paint on the repair then do some measuring to se how I can get it in the garage.

    Cheers

  10. Very busy with work and life so hardly any time spent on the bus :(
This weekend managed to get a good few days in and finished the nearside rear quarter so a few pics:

    Started with this:

Used one of the cheap arches from GFS, but did what I needed, so tacked the part on after trimming a little:

Then cut a filler piece for the top and welded that in:

Started to grind the welds down:

Some zinc primer over the bare metal:

A bit of filler, primer and paint:

Not 100% but good enough for now - will seam seal on the inside over the next few days :)

  11. Also, after looking for an offside rear quarter cut for close to 4 months finally got one from MCJ (cheers Mark for having to put up with me) at the end of last month:

    Underneath (battery tray needs repairing:

Not sure whether to remove or patch - will decide when I start to cleanup the part

Plus a bit of a ding on the edge of the bottom but should dolly out:

No spiders that I can see as yet so that's good :)

Plan is to cut it to a rough size then strip it of paint and loose rust then start to prepare the van for the fitting...

  12. Started to move some more metal from the offside chassis - a lot more will have to be removed than I hoped but ho-hum....

    A couple of crappy pics:

Also, moved the van (first time in 18 months) so that it is a bit more level and safer to work on:

Looking forward to getting the other rear quarter done now :D

  13. So - brought the rear bumper brackets in to work today to see if our engineering department could sand blast them.
I want them usable so that when I get round to doing the offside rear quarter I can make sure that everything aligns before I start welding!

    After:

The bracket for the offside - I had to hack it off the van as the PO had welded it on :(
I will make it good for when the van goes live - for the testing purposes I will use the home made ones (cheers George from the Earlybay forum ;))

  14. Time fly's and all that

    Cheers Chris:D

Working in the engine bay, off-side chassis area removing metal which is past it's best and hoping that what is under is OK (which it looks to be :))

Right - I have to move the fuel tank out as working to close to it now (plus will see what work needs to be done in this area).
Started at around 11:00 with 30 minutes for food ad by 16:00 it was still not out :(
Took nearly 3 hours to get the nuts that hold the tank straps in place off

Off to a house warming and tomorrow a christening so probably won't be able to continue until next week:

  15. Managed to get an hour tonight (spent today taking my daughter for an open day at Manchester University.............)
    Got the tank out :)
Not in bad nick - solid on the outside and a few bits of surface rust on the inside.
The pipe connecting the tank to the filler is not to well so going straight to the bin:

A few pics of the tank:

    Inside the tank:

A view of the shelf that the tank sits on:

    Dreaded rust :( :

Hard to see in this pic but I think it will be similar to the left side:

So - on Sunday (depends on the hangover) I will be looking to address see how far the damage goes and start the patch process.

    Cheers

  16. So - started the gearbox removal tonight and not to bad - just stubborn rusted bolts and nuts (looks like it has never been out in the 42 years of its life....)

First thing to do was remove the cables from the starter motor and the earth strap.
Then disconnect the clutch cable from the end (the wind nut was bloody stubborn) then remove the cable holder from the side of the gearbox. The bracket is knackard - can you still get them??

Once the above was off, then the drive shafts were next - again, not to bad:

Removed the front and rear bolts (front nut rounded next to the starter motor, but managed to get to it from behind) - now hanging by the bungy cords:

  17. Then out (used my knackered lognboard to move it:

    And then it was gone:

    Cheers

  18. A few more hours this week spent cutting and prodding....

Removed a large area of wing that had the oil bath ledge on and a bit more of the top (well not much of it) of the chassis:

  19. Started to cut away metal. Not pretty and looks a lot but will be good on the night.

Don't know if you can see in this pic, but there looks to have been a dent and filled with lead:

Gave the inside a quick wash (compare to the previous pics) and came up quite nice:

Hope on Sunday to do some more then start to prep the cut I have.

    Cheers
