Really beautiful and overlooking see. One of the best ways to get to Rochham beach and just a short drive from Woolcacoombe one of the best places in the country if not the best IMHO Has great facilities - Showers, water, shop, pub round the corner. Only downside is that its windy as on a hill but if your in a camper your ok. Tents get blown away very easily. Been there twice and loved it.

  2. I've been going here for the past 4 years and have probably been 20 times now. We love it and haven't been anywhere nicer :) only been camping though, looking forward to going in the camper when it's finished!!!

Nice there - camped there a couple of years ago. and sometimes stay with my godmother there. she has a caravan just up from the site shop.

I learned to surf just down the road - back in 1972!

Woolacombe's a very nice place to stay, rented a cottage there years ago, superb beaches and scenery!!

  9. Ilfracombe is a bit rough imho, although my Mrs liked it there. We always take a trip to Lynton and Lynmouth, a little further up the coast. Park at Lynton, walk down to Lynmouth and take the rack railway back up to the car....

  11. A bit rough is the understatement of the year! Went in the summer and couldn't believe how run down it is. Croyde Braunton are nice little places to visit. :)

i went to ilfracombe a few years ago and didn't enjoy it, it was very hilly to go to the town and very run down (stopped at the john fowler holiday place) and the highlight of the week was going round the new tesco they'd just built - that's how much i enjoyed it.....

  13. Ilfracombe is indeed a little challenged but there is a beautiful walk from the Torrs Park area along the coast to Lee where there is a pub that does good grub. The walk along the coast is stunning.

  14. Spent much of my youth holidays in Woolacombe.
We used to go in a 998 Mini with a canoe, a windsurfer and two push bikes on the roof rack, PLUS a trailer tent, regularly got stopped for going too SLOW on the M4/M5.
Even back then Ilfracombe was crappy.
BTW the correct pronunciations ARE ILL FRACK KOMBI and WOOL LACK KOMBI. FACT!

  18. Does it ever get full up, it's a long drive from here if I get turned away, their website says they don't take bookings.

Cancel that I just re read the website.

I think we'll give this a go next summer.

  19. Does anyone know if you can still see the wreckage of the old trapper on Rockham beach? used to camp in Morte hoe as kids in the seventies ,last down on that beach about twelve years ago, wreck was still visible. Planning to go down that neck of the woods in a couple of weeks.
