Fingers crossed there will be a third Lancaster flying in time. A pair of brothers in Lincolnshire are in the test stage from what I understand so you may be lucky and see three flying.

They are already doing taxi runs up & down the runway & you can get on board if you desire & have paid.

  13. I took my gran to Waddington Airshow a couple of years ago. When she saw the Lancaster she started telling me how she could remember the skies full of them and how she knew some of the original Dambusters. She also told me how they calculated airmen losses. If they said that 10 aircraft were missing, my gran would multiply the number by 7 to give 70 as the number of men lost. Living history. Made me realise how lucky i am.

  15. I lived near killingholme as a kid and used to play in the Lancaster hangers and on the airfield. The memorial flight with Lancaster Spitfire and Hurricane used to fly low over our house on June 21st every year :)

  16. Think i mentioned a while back, I was mountain biking round the Forest of Bowland, near Lancaster, last summer and two Spits were playing overhead for about half an hour....never heard anything as awesome in my life....perfectly clear, bright sunny day....standing on top of Clougha Pike....Morecambe bay glinting below, Snowdonia and the Lake district in the distance....magic:thumbsup:

My brother has just been posted to Waddington but isn't happy as they don't give base personnel discount/free tickets for the show.

  18. So much for looking after your staff. Probably need everyone to pay so the RAF can pay the fuel bill. Or is that the bar bill?

I heart old planes. At a show in sheffield once a spitfire did a v low fly over , only just clearing the trees

I recall seeing quite a few as a kid, there were quite a few RAF places near and I guess in the early 70's the war wasn't actually that long past.

Spitfires and lancasters make me fill up a bit if I ever see one now.
